This is insane! Love the watch. No disrespect to the vintage community, but beat up 1680’s with flaky dials appear to be a dime a dozen. This is a special watch, assuming they don’t re-release a red sub .
Very nice!

Looks absolutely fantastic ...
I bet those 9 months were unbearable ! Very rudely, I'd love to know the cost and work you had done, but I wouldn't blame you if you didn't want to disclose it. Enjoy ! |

Yeah I agree, thats why I was asking. To me this piece is far more unique that a vintage red sub. I wonder if the OP is around, perhaps he could give us a current status of this beautiful watch.

These are tool watches...after 50 years of service they are still beautiful. I wear a vintage watch every single day 365 days a year...and have zero fear. |

Interesting point about value. I was wondering about this today. From looking around today, a new 1680 Red will cost minimum, $20k. Most cost around $20-30k+. Service red dials appear exceptionally rare. I found one that HQ Milton sold, but couldn’t see the price. I think a Service red would sell for around around $15k ish. However, I acknowledge this is a best guess based on the overall high desirability of a Red 1680 in mint condition. Many purists would avoid it, and it would not likely sell for the price of a vintage model.
Any thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think 15k is about right today. I think in a year or two it could be considerably more as this may be the only 'entry level' red dial some collectors may be able to afford as the vintage reds get priced out of reach.
The red service dials are staggeringly rare and I think in time, when the remaining few (if there are any) are installed into 1680's they will be worth quite a bit more. The days of finding a loose one in the wild are over. |

I wouldn't pay $12k...but it only takes one buyer.
Look at it this way. One of the primary drivers of vintage prices is supply and demand. One the demand side, its my opinion that the demand would be extremely low relative to a true vintage example. If I had a $12k budget, I wouldn't buy a service watch...Id spend it on a nice original GMT or Sub instead. And in my circle of friends who own vintage watches I would guess that 100% of them feel exactly the same way. the only way to determine the value is to put it on the market. Its only worth what someone is willing too pay...and for $12k there are many options. |

A link for a Omega Seamaster "watchco" service build? I'd like to see some examples of what you are saying?

yea...wishful thinking imo.
Would you honestly pay $15,000? You can buy some pretty special pieces for $15k |

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-ome....m43663.l44720
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Omega-Seama....m43663.l44720 Vintage vs WatchCo build only $1200USD apart. So hardly 1/3 the value. |

I think we have just shit all over the OP's thread...so I'm moving on. I am a vintage watch collector/buyer, these are my opinions based on what I have seen collecting vintage watches for over 30 years. You obviously have a different opinion...If you would actually pay $15,000, then the watch is worth that amount. Until that happens its nothing more than speculation. |

Interesting. So you think $8-10k for a service Red 1680? I agree with you as regards the watch only being worth what someone will pay. However, I can’t help but think that because Red dials are special, even if service, a 1680 would sell for somewhere between $10-12k.
What do you think? I see HQ Milton and Craft and Tailored have both sold one, but I couldn’t see any price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
