Everyone that I know who has seen the watch says that the case is very nice....just really let down by the dials. In my opinion using Milenary design DNA in round dial could be stunning as it would show some of the coveted new movement from the front.

It’s easy to dismiss this line because, let’s face it: it needs to fill the shoes of the Royal Oak! The benchmark is quite high! I think the design of the 1159 is very forward thinking. It will catch on and be considered a classic design in about 20 years.

I like the CODE but it’s very hard to describe the watch and make great photos.
You have to see the watch in live. In future i want to buy one...but I don’t know if 3hands or a WG Chrono:-( |

Tried them on in the AP boutique store in Madrid. I felt totally underwhelmed. The case I nice as is the movement, but the dials are nothing special and the glass is also not that great as they want to sell it to us as a great development. At least the sales person agreed with it too. Also disclosed AP will change the dials as they also took notice of the opinion they where not up to, let say, their customers taste.

I trashed this watch when I first saw photos, and again when I saw more photos, and yet again when I saw even more photos...but I did get to see it in person a few days ago, and, well, I didn't hate it.
I still think it straddles the border between sports and dress watch awkwardly -- it's too big and too thick to be a real dress watch, but it looks a bit too dressy to be a sports watch. However, the case wears unbelievably comfortably and is actually pretty interesting, the crystal is pretty cool, and the movement is gorgeous, especially on the chrono version. The dial on the standard (time and date) version is better than I expected -- I was told it's enamel -- but still not great, and I really didn't like the chrono at all despite wanting to because of the fantastic movement. Now for the million (well, tens of thousands) dollar question: will I buy one? I've been thinking about it, and the answer is probably, though likely not now. Given others are saying they are working on tweaking the dials, I'm inclined to wait to see the revised versions, especially since I really want the chrono but would buy the standard version if I went for one of the current offerings. That being said, I do think there is a chance this takes off in the future (wouldn't ever supersede the RO, but could play a notable second fiddle to it like the Aquanaut does with the Nautilus) as more people try them and they continue to make changes, and it would be cool to have one from the first run of which only a few hundred of each variant is being made.

^^^^^^^^^ I never understood the backlash against AP when it was released. Having seen the watches and tried them on I really like them, some slight changes to the dial and I’d buy one.

I suppose this helps them explain why the hands are so uninspiring, otherwise they just look incredibly lazy, still the hands and numeral font need an overhaul.

The 11.59 is so universally maligned, mostly by people who have not touched or viewed the watch in the metal. After handling a time-only version, I can say it's much better in person. I think the sonnerie, perpetual, and tourbillion are excellent in every way. The time only and chrono, however, I still find uninspiring. I hate the chrono btw.
I have to wonder, perhaps it's a generational play by AP. They are playing the long game. Yes, the simplicity of the dial design reminds me of DW. But DW is an incredible success story. They are crushing it. So maybe the target audience isn't the current watch buying generation (say 30+), but gen Z. Those that buy DW watches today will one day buy the Code 11.59. |

Went to the AP Boutique in Geneva last week looking for a RO 15500ST (laughter fills the room)...After trying on the demo's the salesperson gave me a 15 minute demonstration on the CODE's, and I tried on three models. That plastic dial was the first thing that jumped at me, just looks cheap and flat, for a $28k I predict this model will not fly well with younger consumers.
I recently discovered that the movement in the CODE (non-chrono) is the same as the movement in the 15500ST. This could be part of the reason why there is a shortage in 500's, since AP is pushing the CODE production, and they have limited capacity to do both. Will have to sit this one out till AP realizes they made a mistake, and continue producing more 500s to recoop losses. Apparently the CODE has some innovative designs in the casing: concave glass that is thinner in the middle, and complex layering of case components: inside/underneath the circular dial is actually a octagonal casing, as well as some complicated process to have the AP logo stick out of the dial surface. All this means nothing when the watch looks like it does... since no one will have the time of day to listen to all those innovations. A watch needs to speak for itself! |

I actually like the minute repeater, tourbillons and PC a lot. The chrono and time date leave a lot to be desired.
I was just offered the PC and ended up picking it up - I found the detail on the PC dial to be incredible which drove my decision to get it vs a RO perpetual |
