I don’t like to even put things into that category. I like what I like and try not to care what others think of it (otherwise I probably wouldn’t have bought my Sea Dweller to begin with - though I admit I usually don’t wear it in the office).
Next on my list is a Omega Speedmaster 1861, then the Tudor Heritage Chrono in blue and orange, the IWC petit prince Mark XVIII, and the Aquaterra world timer. Maybe after all that if I get that far I may consider a 36mm Explorer (yes, I like black, blue and steel). All probably “lesser” watches and brands - some not even with “in-house movement” and such. But honestly, I don’t like any of the new Rolex watches or any of the “must have” celebrity brands (most of which are too expensive, out of reach for me, but I simply am not even a fan. Not interested in AP, Patek or East German watches). |

My Apple watch does a multiple of things my Rolex's can't even begin to fulfil ... On the Golf Course I keep score and use GPS, when exercising it gives me fitness data, I can take calls, read email and search the web... all on my wrist.
Oh, and like my Rolexes I can read the time and the date but more accurately. So in theory the Apple watch is superior in every way to the finest luxury piece. But I wouldn't wear it outside of activities it serves me. Rolex or Apple? horses for courses.... |

Likewise. I use my Apple Watch strictly during exercising. If you remember a few years ago, at one of the new Apple Watch revealings, Tim Cook was proud to point out that the Apple Watch was now the best selling watch in the world—supplanting Rolex which was now number two. Granted the Apple Watch is a few hundred dollars at most while we know how expensive Rolex’ can get. I really believe the health and fitness features on the Apple Watch will continue to improve and will continue to attract a larger audience for people w health-related issues. I swear every senior citizen where I live wears an Apple Watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

An Apple watch isn't strictly a watch, It's more than a simple instrument that's designed primarily to tell the time.
It's intent is to access a whole load of information like health and fitness data along with connectivity. My wife has recently bought one to track her heart rhythm because there's something going on infrequently with her heart. It's been invaluable for her to print out and show the Doctor and more recently the Cardiologist what's happening at various times which she can capture on the fly that a Halter couldn't. But guess what? She also had to buy an IPhone to make it all work. As we are Samsung people in our household the connectivity aspect wasn't what we were hoping for In summary, the functionality of an Apple watch isn't universal from our point of view. Besides, my wife hates the thing and can't wait to slip her Rolex back on when the occassion arises A simple watch can work anywhere at any price point if one wants to tell the time in a convenient manner 24/7 without having to take it off to charge it up. A watch can tell the time and be fully functional as intended under water at depths greater than a human can withstand and an Apple watch would have been laid waste. A watch can also perform as required in space where the temps would render an Apple watch useless. I'm not convinced a Wrist watch or an Apple watch can be compared either way when we take everything into consideration. They are very separate things. Unless one wanted or needed to have the technology of connectivity, i'm not sure anybody would seek out an Apple watch to tell the time or record elapsed time in their preferred manner |

I find that after a while, the love for a watch fades a bit but for “lesser” brands, that love fades quicker. But it could be just me. One thing for sure, giving some lesser brands some wrist time rejuvenates the love for the higher brands.

So I got my Omega. I still haven’t even opened it. While waiting, I was browsing watches and took a liking to this guy. The fact it had a little history to it being on the moon, I thought for $350 what the heck.
Anyway, clearly this is a lesser watch to my SkyD and my new Omega but wow I am really loving it. So I can say I definitely am not biased to any brands or price points. What a cool little beater for $350 bucks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Lol, Rolex is the lesser brand.
So I guess to answer your question, no I don't buy Rolex anymore. Sent from my SM-G973W using Tapatalk

Agreed! My small collection is all Tudor and Rolex, but just picked up a really colorful Martenero Edgemere Reserve. Under 600 bucks with power reserve meter (40 hours reserve), date, and 24 hour dial. Three nato straps on the way. With the bright colors it'll be a real strap monster.

These days the market considers anything other than Rolex, PP, and AP “lesser”. I’d actually love to buy a few different pieces but I’m in the process of setting up a new venture so funds are tight. Once rolling though, I think I’d like to pick up an SMP, Santos, and I’d love an overseas or royal oak.

I sold all my Rolex and Tudor watches and nowadays I wear only Casio and Seiko. So I think my answer is "yes".

I only ended up with a Rolex because of a death in the family. Prior to that the Speedmaster was pretty much what I wanted. I live in Houston and have ties to the space program. I purchased an Omega FOIS shortly after getting my 16610.

I live in Houston and have some ties to the space program. Before I got my heirloom Submariner I always wanted a Speedmaster. Ended up purchasing an FOIS about six months after I got my Sub.

Beyond Rolex and a Tiffany labeled Tudor, I dream only of my Patek. For a minute I considered a Breitling (Olivia wears one on L&O SVU) but the feeling passed.

YUP! Hell I even like them. Using the term "lesser brands" seems a wee bit arrogant.

Well I did buy an Apple Watch after my first Rolex
What this hobby has taught me is the name on the watch is only a small part of appreciating the horological history and craftsmanship that goes into each watch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
