I have had many (see signature), I especially like the helium valve SD.

vintage: 5513
pre / ceramic: 16600
current production: SD43 (SS / TT)
almost impossible: 5517

I would say the most interesting ones I have owned were:
1. 1959 6538 Big Crown - nicest one on planet now owned by Morgan King
2. 5514 Comex used in deepest dive in Comex history with logs.
3. 5513 Milsub
4. 1680/8 Meters First (first gold Sub)
5. Carmel colored/color change blue dial 1680/8
6. DRSD MK1 NOS - sat in a drawer for 45 years unworn. Original owner didn’t like so he bought a 5513 and never wore this.

All of them are on here in my old pics if you look back. Some pretty cool Subs overall with some interesting provenance.

I agree with others that a ceramic sub date is the ultimate sub for a one watch collection. For a many watch collection? Maybe a regular SubC or a Cermit. IMO.

Couldn't agree more ... on the 16800.

I've had many. I love the 14060 and 5513 but 16610 is my all-time favorite.

For me the its the 5514 with the COMEX dial. A true divers watch very rare, I've never seen one live and I'm not sure I've even seen one on this site. A distant 2nd would be the Hulk.

Really tough to say. There are so many good ones. I don’t know much about vintage, but understand those that really love them. To me, some of my favorites are the Hulk, Smurf, 126610LV, new white gold, yellow gold with blue dial, and the SABR.

Here’s mine:

For me there are two ultimate submariners, there is the icon NO-DATE and the most beautiful the HULK. One is timeless and the other is the most beautiful piece to have in a collection. They are the two queens.

16610 is peak submariner to my mind. I really regret that I sold mine some years ago. Second place would be 5512/5513 and third 116610ln

I think there was a 14060 2-liner, but irrespective I like all the non-date versions aesthetically far more.

IMO as far as current models go the 124060 is perfection. Clean dial and really nothing more you need in a watch. Having a date function on a watch doesn't matter to me as I never use it anyway.

Having said that, the 126619LB is sublime

What is the ultimate Submariner?!

The shape of this watch is the nicest. I don’t have a modern sub yet but did try one on 2 days ago. It was larger than I expected. Of course the bracelet is light and doesn’t have the micro quick adjustments that are very useful from the new references. I must be biased as I’ve had my 16610 since 1990

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The 16610LV has a great combo of old world design case and dimensions but the modern dial. I just got it last month and am so impressed. I am waiting for a new no date sub so we’ll see!

16618 is the ultimate sub.

1.5 years ago you could get an older one for 17k-20k. Now that same watch is 30k+. Crazy how that happened.
