Because they have what you want. Either you want it or you don’t. If you want it bad enough you accept their terms. If not, you walk. If you walk there’s a line of people behind you. It’s pretty straightforward really.

I kind of understand where OP is coming from... I don't like the manners of how he is expressing himself tho.

These cases ruin the brand for me. AD's are being assholes because they have the demand for their watches instead of showing high-quality customer service and a bit of flexibility. These are luxury goods and they should give that kind of service.

We all know the customer is not always right... but come on, it's only a spare link? Who cares, AD should take the loss of $100 bucks and make the customer happy...

Maybe my AD is just too good. Idk...

I’ve been told I had to pay by personal check for a hot reference (BLNR) by an AD I had made more expensive purchases by credit card from before, that were less in demand. Not a fan, but I value the relationship and did it.

Someone mentioned that the customer could dispute the charge - that would be difficult with the number of cameras documenting the transaction in every AD I’ve ever visited. I think it saves them CC fees, but is also another method to try and avoid flippers who might buy the watch on credit and immediately flip it for cash. I would assume that some of the new buyers in the market for a Rolex today don’t have the cash on hand to pay for one.

I think most people doesn't expect free extra links. It might used to be free when ADs have a lots of watches in stock for sale but now it is different story.

It isn't good business practice for not accepting credit card for payment. In 2020, I purchased AP 15500OR, the dealer gave 2% discount for cash or wire transfer. The fee for credit card that business owner pay probably 3%.

In this case, I think this AD made a big mistake that gave OP a free links after he gave a bad reviewed which made OP think that he was right from the beginning.

I agree that sometimes ADs can be unreasonable in teh current climate. That being said.
The OP needs an extra link or 2, for a SS watch thats like 100-200$ or something. For a 2Tone or PM, thats 500-1500$ so why should he get that free? I get links taken out on everything. If i bought a DD40 or 2tone DJ41, should i get a 500-1500$ discount because the AD gets to keep a link or 2?
the retail price is the watch plus included links, extra links are extra. If your wrist is too large and you need links, you should have to buy extra links. Sure the AD can give them free at their discretion, but it should in no way ever be assumed they will be free.

If Rolex is charging the AD for links, I would never expect them to eat that cost. I would however expect them to not mark it up either.

For the check part, I would have no problem if disclosed when they called asked if I wanted the watch and said we will hold it until X, please bring a check for $X.

This one transaction has generated so much noise that a fair assessment of what actually happened and why, will be possible only if we hear the AD's side.

i would almost guarantee that the AD knows of this thread and the other threads posted. I would venture to guess they have already blacklisted you, which you stated you don't care. However, they likely are talking to the other ADs in the area. You might not be blacklisted from them, but you likely did get lower on their priority list.

Im just saying, posting negative reviews online or on forums(even seemingly anonymous ones) can have positive immediate effects and negative long term effects.

OP - based on a couple of threads and people collectively not agreeing or mocking you have you wonder if you are really right? It all doesn't make sense. Makes me think this is a troll account. Like if you can get the watch so easily why did you jump through their hoops? Also, you said a suit fits because it's sold in sizes. You don't fit the Rolex size the links on you. I don't understand the online ranting. Seems like you are enjoying it and ignoring everyone trying to explain. All adds up to trolling. If you are not and you mean this... I recommend just trying to be happy and enjoy your watch. That google review isn't kind and the AD is trying to accommodate you and that says a lot.

i would of walked out....they want to save on paying the cc fee...i dont do business with places that want to charge a fee....i was at a Nissan Dealership and they said they were charging a fee....i laughed and walked out....

AD or Gray's that charge that fee want the total profit...Main store and others dont charge a fee...its how they make their money!!!!

I have always purchased any extra links I needed from my AD. If they gifted them to me that would be nice but I don't expect that.

Having to pay for extra links due to wrist size is not only cheap on the ADs part but downright discriminatory. The list price is the same for any customer. There's no provision for discount or surcharge based on sizing. S, M, L, XL etc all are priced the same when it comes to wearable items.
Moreover, when there's a CC sign on the door, the customer is entitled to pay with one, period. No questions asked.
The amount of people here seeming to think otherwise though is disturbing, to say the least. With all due respect to everyone, perhaps reconsider?
There's a lot of political correctness going on, overall on this forum but not on this one?

I owned a Rolex AD for about twenty-five years ... family store and one of those old-time non-mall businesses.

Reading this makes me sooooo darned happy that I retired from my store early and retired.

Do I miss working with the buying public??? Yeah, like a huge pimple on my butt.

If I own a business I should be able to choose who I sell to, how much discount, what to require the customer to pay for any extras, and mode of payment. If the customer doesn't like it he should go elsewhere. Some ADs in other countries sell over list by a high margin let alone give you a free spare link. Also 1.5%-3% CC saving may not be much for one transaction, but it adds up to a big amount for the number of customers the AD has. Also a Rolex AD may see that paying by check is a way to exclude flippers for instance.

Laughable. Clothing in disproportionately large sizes costs more than the same style in what are considered standard sizes, trucks with four doors cost more than trucks with two doors and houses with more square footage cost more than houses with less. You don’t think pro basketball players pay more for their clothes than jockeys do or is your argument that they shouldn’t? This is fantasy thinking.

Avoiding credit card merchant fees. No AD gives free links, at least in my +30 years buying watches I’ve never seen it.

If different modes of payment are offered, you must be ready to accept anyone the customer chooses. If you cannot, then you should not offer it in the first place. A store can and will be held accountable for such practices.
There's always the denial of service, of course, depending on the legislation in your country.
As for extras, an additional link to fit the customer should come at no charge, as a matter of tact, actually.

You are entitled to your opinion. I will refrain from calling it anything. Still, S,M,L,XL are priced the same when it comes to clothing.

Kinda late to the party but I'm with the camp that believes extra links are not free. They may choose to give them to you as a courtesy, or they may not. That's their call. I've bought watches from various boutiques and gotten a free extra strap etc... If a customer walks in for a strap its not free, and they could have made me pay for it as well, but since I bought a watch they gave it away as a gift/courtesy.

Regarding the outer box sleeve maybe they ran out as the watches and the packaging come separately. Who knows. Not a big deal at all.

Regarding the cheque vs the CC you voluntarily went and got the cheque... Nobody made you do anything. If it was a big deal to you, you should have just said no thanks.

A lot of restaurants have a sign that says the reserve the right to refuse service. They dont have to sell you anything, nor do you have to buy anything from them.

Could they have been more courteous or accommodating? Yeah sure... Are they obliged to take credit cards and give out free links? Nah...
