The Daytona is a nice watch, but you are crazy for trading away a Lange 1 of any variation for it. I can only dream of owning a Lange 1, but a Daytona is (somewhat) attainable new from an AD.

Update from OP
Thank you for all of your input. I've gone back and forth on this but just purchased a black dial 116500 and am keeping the Lange, at least for the time being. Now just have to wait a day or two

The old version with Moscow on it id dump just because of that. Otherwise I would never make that trade.

I would pick the Daytona in a heartbeat. Not to sound like a fan-boy or contrarian, but that Lange does nothing for me and I rather dislike those lugs. The Daytona is a better daily wear, comes with an amazing bracelet/clasp, and one of the most robust reliable chrono movements, with 100m water resistance.

I'd imagine you'll wear the Daytona a lot at first. It'll be interesting to see what your wearing habits/decisions are after you've owned the Daytona for a while too.

I assume Daytona88 refers to the year you got on the Daytona waitlist?
Enjoy it, she's a beauty and the L1 is too. Would be a great two watch collection.

I have the L1 Moonphase in WG and honestly it can be a daily wearer. With the dial layout, it actually has a very technical look and not the classic staid dress watch vibe. Any ALS owner knows that as you drill-down onto the watch, the details are ever sharper. This is the subtle joy of the brand. In the end I went with white metal for the versatility but I love the rose/pink/yellow gold and with the right strap can be dressed down with jeans. |

Is the Lange a daily time piece? Part of the Daytona's grey price is because it's easily a daily watch for the masses. Lange, in PM at that, is obviously worth more on a nominal basis, but not a daily wearer for the masses, which is why it hasn't experienced the same % increase as a SS daytona. I would immediately disregard anybody who claims Rolex is higher horology than Lange, especially when it comes to detail & craftsmanship, but at the end of the day, I'm a watch enthusiast and if you prefer one over the other, then go for it! It's why I love the watch game, so many different opinions, but at the end your opinion matters most.

I'd not buy a watch like the Lange as, although interesting, it's not useful for my lifestyle. To me owning it would be a mistake.

I have a white DaytonaC. I would take that Lange any day of the week over a DaytonaC. Daytona is a nice watch at MSRP not at current market prices. If you really want a Daytona I would add not replace.

When you get the Daytona and have both watches let us know your impressions, which you prefer and if you would have done the trade if that was your only option to get the Daytona.

If you can only afford to keep one, I guess the Daytona would make more sense as it’s more versatile and you get more occasions to wear. Otherwise both can sit comfortable in a collection as they are so different.
