I think exhibition pieces are good for people to try on.
It's better than having empty displays.
That way the sales assistant can sum up the potential client and gauge how genuine they are.
Of course, after that who knows how it will unfold behind the scenes?

The exhibition pieces on display at my local AD contained no movements. Kinda weird, but I suppose better than empty cases.

There may be another reason. If there are only exhibition pieces left in the showroom, then there is no reason to steal, since these are worthless.

I went in another AD yesterday in HK

The numbers of exhibition pieces they had - quite astonishing and seemingly they had real movements in them. There must have been 35+ watches and yet again, they said cannot try on, cannot take them out to look at. And no waiting list

Just beggars belief
