How about waiting until you start working for a living, then buying one as a measure of your own success??

I gave that a thought. But my dad tells me that I have unpredictable tastes!

I'm a cop, so understand where I'm coming from.

At your age, people who wouldn't think twice about ripping a ROLEX off the arm of an adult would consider you an easy mark. Considering your location (PR) and I've been there (beautiful place by the way), I think you'd have to seriously consider the locations you frequent when wearing any type of ROLEX. In the criminal world, ROLEX means easy money, even the name ROLEX sends shivers up the legs of bad guys/girls.

Think about it this way, when someone sees someone wearing a ROLEX, they think that guy/girl has money....even if that ISN'T the case. Not only is your watch valuable, so are you....if a young person is wearing one, then his parents are valuable.

But, I'm cynical...can't do this job for a long time and not be. If your father does gift you one, just use your common sense. I know you'll want people to know you have one, every one who has a ROLEX is proud of them but its doubly typical for someone so young to be, whats the word...flashy. It's normal.

Good luck and congrats should this happen...just be careful.

Yer Pal,
Cuda
Thanks Cuda! I know what u mean! If I get it, which some people are making me not wanting to get it, It'll be for special occasions! Weddings, Grads, Family parties, Funerals etc. But I think I might not get it. :/

Gaby, the Sub certainly is a popular suggestion, by the look of your poll, but how about a nice Explorer II with the white dial? - a bit different.

I hope you get a great Rolex for your 16th, whichever model it is. It will be a fabulous present to remember and treasure.

All the best,

Neil.

Oh, that's too bad.

I hope you're not too downhearted with some of the earlier comments and replies.

If you want one and it's tradition in your family, I say go for it.

The start of your thread was so upbeat, so hold that thought and savour the expectation of choosing a new one - whatever it is.

Good Luck.

Well, That how a "kid" (as some describe me) feels. Dissapointed maybe? I thought most of the guys would have given me support. But that's how the cookie crumbles my friend.

Never mind the dissenters, Gaby.

As you have already said - watches have run in your family for many, many years and, for what it's worth, I think it's entirely appropriate that you uphold the tradition on your 16th.

There are many messages of support in your thread, so focus on those for inspiration, rather than allow your enthusiasm to be dampened.

Just my two cents worth - now, get your order in for your new Rolex.

By all means take a peek for now, anyway, but have a real good look for your new Rolex and take heart that many here wish you well in your search for the perfect model.
