DATE...Do you actually "need" it?

Glad, that the thread returned to the initial question.

To reply to it: I don't need it but I am used to have it and I frequently am looking at the date of my watch. It's like this for the last 30 years - I have a habit to do so and the missing date function annoyed me, when I had my Breguet XX.

I was feeling uncomfortable everytime, when I was looking for the date and it was not there.
So, why should I continue like this. I prefer to enjoy my watches - especially when everything is at place like I am used to.


P.S. I am calling Jake B my friend. I understand, why he uses the larger fonts and I understand others, who feel being bothered by this.
Being an old-fashion European, I always admired people in the US to be great in accepting opposing opinions.

While I do agree it is difficult to form bonds with some of the members who have been on this site for a number of years and I have witnessed a number of occasions when subtle resentment has been directed towards newer members (one of the reason why I am hesitant to donating).

But continually posting in larger font, when having the etiquette of this board explained to the member, is plain inconsiderate and being argumentative for the sake of it.

Thanks. I'll chime in one more time here on this one. Off the board, I received private messages from members apologizing for the behaviour of those members who so eloquently explained what they feel the etiquette is in their opinions. and assuring me that most of the members here kind and understanding...and, believe it or not, in the case of an "older" member, telling me that they appreciate the larger text.

I assure you, it's not been my intention at any time to be inconsiderate or argumentative, but rather only to start a conversation about the date feature on a watch. Thanks, and sorry for the misunderstanding. I hope to be able to move forward, and have some interesting conversations about Rolex watches.

I like the clean look of a no-date on other watches, but a Rolex date with the cyclops is iconic (or classic). A drawback of a date watch is that you have to set it which can be a pain if you don't wear it often if you have a fleet of watches.

As far as checking the date, I'd much rather look at a watch dial than an ugly and sterile cell phone display.

Guys, I'm not taking any sides, and I don't want to start a fight either. I find some of our good folks here get offended by big fonts etc. But it's not a serious problem right? Maybe we are getting too sensitive on what we see and read. If we are, maybe we could just avoid this topic and just look at other threads. This thread is about Dates on your Rolex, but I can see some want to start a fight. Just my 2 cents. Please don't take this comment too much. Thanks.

And about Jake's font-This guy is famous in SCWF for modding watches and has been in that forum for many years. He really uses that certain font always, so just please understand.

If the moderators won't tolerate this kind of fonts, as he have said, he'll be happy to oblige.
