Polo Black!

But not just any Polo Black. It has to be purchased in Whitechapel on a Saturday evening just before taking the Jack The Ripper tour!

It is the memory of the location and the occasion that adds the necessary elements to the fragrance. That makes the scent "special"!

Every time I put on some Polo Black, it takes me back to a Gentleman's shop in Whitechapel. And reminds me of Jack...!

I've got a few, but my all time favorite is probably Polo Blue. A close second would be DG Light Blue. The rest of my bottles are also very mainstream scents: Aqua di Gio, YSL Homme, Armani Code, Davidoff Cool water, etc. But I guess they're mainstream because they smell good right? :)

Not if you read the snooty Basenotes reviews. They're mainstream because we're all idiots. :) I find it really entertaining reading some of these incredibly pompous reviews. They do seem to look down on popular scents.

You'll actually hear them say something like: "Well yeah, it does smell great, but, that's all it does..." What exactly would they like it to do, other than smell great? Maybe wax your car, do the laundry, and pick winning powerball numbers? Now THAT would be a good seller! :)

Heh I know quite a lot of people like it but on me it just has that sting of bong water. Doesnt really do it for me.

Its very unique and well made so if it works on/for you its probably very nice.

Very sure ;-).

It's not really that random - the name does indeed reflect some of the vibe they went for with the scent.

Heck, rumor has it they refine some of it to make the scent but thats probably just that - a rumor ;).

Anyway, its a very interesting scent, not a lot out there thats even close.

Similar but not the same.

I think I'm going to pick up a bottle of GIT. I did a big Creed multiple day nosing and sample session. My wife liked the Green Irish Tweed the best. So that's that. Interestingly she really disliked a couple that I liked, she picked up a sour note and unpleasant musk that I didn't dislike at all.

Here is a link to their store in Koln

http://www.4711.com/index.php/en/

They also have a Nouveau Cologne . . . . but I like the original one ;-)

My great parents used it not as a perfume but if we where sick they put some drops 4711 on my pillow . . .

Ages ago of course . . . ;-)

Have you tried the Hermes D'Orange Concentre?

It's very nice. Bitter/zesty orange and a nice bitter green later on.

If you like other Hermes, but with a really nice orange/citrus added, check it out.

As for GIT and Cool Water. I honestly don't like the smell of either. Too grassy and heavy as it dries for me. And GIT and Cool Water do smell surprisingly alike, with cool water being literally a tenth the price.

I do like Creed Aventus, but it's at least $220 a bottle with a discount. I'm not sure I can go down that road. :) Well, I can, but I think choose not to. :)

You may want to try Tonka Vetivier. Its from the Hermessence line and is quite amazing.

That being said, I must have 2-3k worth of various mens colognes, perfumes and Terre D'Hermes is still top3.
