It is the thickness that I don't like with bigger watches. If they fit under my shirt's long sleeves, they are fine with me.

For me, my 40mm Sub is perfect. I am so over this maxi watch case thing. They are fine for many people, and the watch makers ought to have models that appeal to such buyers. But there is nothing to suggest that a model with a +50 year track record of success should be changed based on current trends, sort of like changing the formula for Coke.
Next we'll be debating whether Rolex should make a Datejust 1.5

I have a 7" wrist and have worn the sub for nearly 30 years and have seen it go from "Wow! That watch is huge!" to have people call it smallish.

I recently bought a Panerai 299 and while doing my research I thought it might be too large. It looks just fine on my smaller wrist but could not go any larger. Both my subs are the older style and feel like an old friend. While it is not as large as some of the obscenely large watches out there I think it is the perfect size. Though big guys with huge wrists may tend to find it almost lady-like when you compare it to the 47mm and larger Omegas and bigger stuff like the U-Boat and other alarm clocks for the wrist.

That said I tried on an Oris Divers / Small seconds the other day and it looked just fine despite being 47mm. It's the tapered case that makes it look OK even on my wrist.

I think they could do different size subs like they do with Datejusts and Yachtmasters....I think a 45 mm and a 40 mm would make everyone happy

Odd that you let current women's fashion influence your watch purchasing decisions. I suppose if women everywhere started wearing Fifty Fathoms then you'd have to avoid those too.

I wouldn't let a random shot of a C list celebrity at a Miami Heat game serve as a barometer for what is fashionable wristwear for the ladies. Most women wearing the large watches are wearing Michael Korrs fashion pieces, not necessarily high end time pieces.

Very subjective question, It all depends on your body build and wrist size.
Its like asking if a size 32 pant is too small and others complaining a 36 is too big.
I never get this too big/small threads, useless imo.

Here's a pic of my Sub on my 8.75" wrist. I've never thought it was too small, but after a wearing a Speedy for a week or so, it does take a little to adjust to. I can get away with wearing a larger watch, but a 44mm on a 7" wrist
