yep, FiFi was in Charlotte for Memorial Day, along with a p51 mustang offering 1/2 hour rides for $1,900. $1,800 and I was in, but $1,900? Couldn't swing it.

It's here in Madison this weekend along with Aluminum Overcast giving rides. They have a few other warbirds here this weekend too.

I found this after I saw the aircraft yesterday. Guess I'll be watching it all weekend.

It's an experience just to watch them start the motors on Fifi.

Video from inside the SWA plane that lost the nose gear at LGA.

NTSB is reporting it landed 3 degrees nose down and didn't set landing flaps until 40 seconds prior to touch down because they were too fast.

A ride in a P-51 is on my bucket list.

Sounds like an SWA crew is going to be seeking new employment.

Heard and watched that earlier. It's interesting that the last 2 major commercial airline incidents have been landing issues that, on the surface, appear to be pilot error and unwillingness or inability to go around.

At ABQ I had to call traffic on FIFI once. "Traffic, one o'clock, 4 miles, northeast bound, a b29 bomber, caution wake trubulance" the pilot responded "a WHAT!!!!"

Funny, I was working approach this morning and had FiFi #2 in a sequence of 3. #3 was a C172. I guess he was an EAA regular, because that was the reaction I was anticipating when I told him his sequence and the wake caution. He just said, "yeah, I got the fortress in sight" What a buzz kill.

I can only imagine. Rides on it aren't cheap, but they've been able to get enough interest to fly a few times each day over the last couple.

I'd like a ride in a P63 Kingcobra and in a Spitfire Mk IX.

Striker, listen, and you listen close: flying a plane is no different than riding a bicycle, just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes.

It's not the best looking airplane but as you mentioned comparable to a F350

Wing Commander, 007 Pilot Ken Wallis, 97, Dies

Wing Commander, 007 Pilot Ken Wallis, 97, Dies

British pilot Ken Wallis took his first solo flight in 1937, flew as a stunt pilot and doubled for Sean Connery in 1967, and passed away Sunday at the age of 97, after "a long and successful life doing what he wanted," his daughter told BBC.co.uk. Wallis flew Wellington bombers for his country in World War II, surviving a bomb bay explosion and a midair with a barrage balloon, once returning with 115 holes in his aircraft. He spent 20 years in weapons research for the RAF and later applied his skills for the movie industry. Wallis flew roughly 44 hours and 75 flights to capture the seven-and-one-half minute gyrocopter sequence shown in the James Bond movie, You Only Live Twice. At the age of 96, he was recognized for his lifetime contribution to aerospace by the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators. At the time, he was quoted saying, "This award is a great honor, but at only 96 I'm just a beginner."

Wallis set 17 world records in autogyros in two categories (34 total) from 1968 to 2002 and called flying "a family vice." Wallis built his own autogyros, and kept as many as 18. It was one of those chosen for use in the Bond film. In 2010, at the age of 94, Wallis had plans to fly an autogyro to a world record speed of more than 140 mph. He told the DailyMail.co.uk that he'd flown to 136 mph in one of his aircraft but officially held a record set in 2002 at 129.1 mph. As for his age, Wallis said, "I try not to take any notice. So long as I'm busy and able, and can still turn the propeller to start the engine, why should I think about numbers."
