$2800 but it became $2000 once they had the watch in hand.

Just for awareness Paul Altieri is now listing watches for sale here as "Paul Watches". For example:

https://www.rolexforums.com/showthre...hlight=altieri

I have not done business with Bob / Paul but did not see this mentioned in the thread - apologies if I missed it.

My mistake. I never searched too hard and for good reason which we can see now from this thread. The last thing I would want to do is get into a legal dispute with someone that rambles about a lawsuit over a couple of grand. Would cost more to make the call than the watch is worth. What the OP did was far from slander and simply shared his experience while asking for advice..

Trust me, I don't recommend the place. I got shafted for a few hundred when I sold them a watch. It was when I was first getting into it and was naive.

Btw, hello neighbor! I work in Newport on PCH, good to see another TRF member from here!

Personally don't like bobs watches. Over priced and once they receive your watch they never actually stick to there original offer price.

Wow 20 million in business last year alone.... I call BS....
By my crude calculations, they would have to do roughly 60k of business a day 7 days a week?

Not so unlikely; 6@$10K/day = 12@$5K = $60K. I'd think the trick is finding the watches but since he's buying at 30% below minimum market price and using methods discussed in this thread to reduce that price it's possible.

Would not be surprised if there is a robust dealer to dealer market for bulk transactions.

That was my guess as well. Wholesale market. Buy 30% back of wholesale and sell at wholesale is still a 30% profit.

I was and still am, very satisfied with my purchase from Bob's watches. They provided a smooth international transaction and my watch was in my hands in just over 1 week!

There is, but I've never heard of Bobs being a wholesale source... why would they? No point in wholesaling when you have a good retail outlet.

interesting in that Forbes article he says his goal was to provide transparency by publishing the prices he buys watches. Except in reality it seems that it is more the illusion of transparency as he seems frequently (always?) to find a reason not to pay the published price.

20 million flipping Rolex seems far off as you stated. I know he pumps money into adwords and other forms of web traffic so anything is possible I suppose, but I am leaning towards nonsense as you said.

The "Buy" price he posts is pretty much for LNIB. If you've ever worn it, you'll see a pretty big discount. They say the have inspection and polishing costs, but if transparency were there aim, those would already be included in their "Buy" price.

Their sell prices tend to be about 10% high, so he's got a pretty good margin built in (even for a B&M store). But I don't see stock move off their website fast enough to account for $20M a year just from watch sales.

Cash flow. Even the most robust retailer has lots tied up in inventory, and I would be willing to bet a handful of brands and models account for 80%+ of their sales.

I just bought my first Rolex (Daytona) from Bob’s Watches and it was a great experience. I visited their location in Huntington Beach, Calif. and was impressed with their customer service. This place is legit. I even met the owner, Paul Altieri, who was wearing a Paul Newman Daytona and is a true watch afficianado. Purchase with confidence.

Guys,

In my limited time on these forums and speaking to really reputable guys like Patrick from OC Rolex guy, SD watches, Takuya and David from Honolulu time, I have found out that there is always a pretty decent dealer profit and if you want "fair value" for your watch, you should try to sell it yourself; it might take a few months but that is the convenience fee that these dealers charge. I've gotten a few price quotes and I personally think Bob's Watches is pretty transparent at showing that they will buy a watch for $4k and sell for $6 to $6.5k. I did get quoted $4000 for my service dial GMT 1675 when Bob's is selling for $7.5k to $7.8k so I obviously didn't take it.

The unfortunate nature of scaling an operation up is that Paul cannot control the quality of the interactions 100% and unless you've Govberg or a big chain I doubt you can really get real knowledgeable watch enthusiasts to run your operations and phone lines day to day.

I want to meet up to be further enabled and drool over other watches. In Diamond Bar/Brea myself. Nice pic of a gold sub by the way : )

A very dishonest practice. Basically it appears the unfair assumption with the quote provided by this firm is that the individual getting rid of the watch had a professional polish, professional regulation, and a new crystal otherwise you will get less than the quoted price. Obviously, in most cases someone wanting to get rid of a watch will not do all of this by default. The quoted price should be based on what we all know is the majority- not polished, not recently serviced, no brand new crystal. I would stay away from this seller he appears to prey on individuals wanting to make a quick sale by providing a lucrative quote then giving all kinds of reasons for paying less once the watch is in their possession.

Asking you to pay for the polish is quite something, I believe. Hope you find a buyer on this forum and their tactics don‘t pay off.
