I'd be all over that like a rash - would be close to the perfect watch for me now

I'm incredulous myself, but considering the massive steel Sub shortage and also the fact that Rolex had the audacity to make a watch as iconic as the Pepsi GMT into an exclusively PM model, I cannot say I would be entirely surprised.

Thoughts? Opinions? Has anyone here also encountered these rumors?

Cheers!
I do not believe that but I was looking at the pre-owned prices on ebay and chrono 24 and I'm scared. What happen!!!!

Let’s say they do not discontinue but availability is really bad. What do you honestly think the prices would be for preowned and new?

Well take the UK where we have had low supply for over a year, which is what Rolex is projecting worldwide for next year, and most popular models are at premiums of 20-30% and rising on grey mkt.

Check out the market leader's prices, but brace yourself first. For eg LVc is now over £9K ie $12K.

Yup, and Honda is going to stop making the Accord. The Mercedes is discontinuing he S-Class. McDonald’s is killing the Big Mac.

Why the hell would Rolex stop making the most popular and industry standard diver? A new plan to go out of business perhaps?

Rolex will continue to make the Sub. But let's have an honest conversation here. Some c-level in that building has made a nice Power Point about prices of certain models in the secondary/grey market. I have no doubt big changes are coming. Why let a grey or AD for that matter take your $?

i was talking to my dealer and he mentioned back in november if i purchased my watch a month or two before he could get me a better deal. Didn't realize large dealers are even out of stock on a lot of different "used to be common" rolex pieces. I went to ben bridge in glendale a couple weeks ago just to see if they had anything in stock. The displays were pretty empty and the sales associate said they haven't had a submariner since october. who wouldve thunk.

Don't the greys help Rolex move less desirable watches? If an AD can't sell a watch at MSRP, they dump at a discount to a grey, whilst also giving the grey some popular SS models as a reward for taking slow-moving models off their hands?

Let's say if back in 2001 someone told you Rolex would discontinue the SS pepsi GMT in the future and will only make it in white gold (now BLRO), would you believe it???

This is why I can believe the rumour. It wouldn’t be a radical shift in the company’s modus operandi because they’ve done it before!!!
History repeats itself.

People are unable to predict a single model change before each Basel and some random nobody from the Internet has information about such big news 2 months before the show. Rolex is so good at keeping secrets but suddenly their biggest one leaked so easily. Seems legit.

I can't see wearing a WG Submariner scuba diving when SS is more practical and has been the scuba divers choice of diving watches. But there are a lot of people wearing Submariners that don't even snorkle.

Just an attempt to drive the demand up by someone with a few watches to get rid of.

Visited 2 AD last Sunday in the burbs of Chicago. Each one of the AD had Sub date/no date SS in their show cases.

My AD got a nice shipment in last week. Was there yesterday, thought I saw 2 SS subs. None today however.

I wonder if the mods should lock this thread, given that the OP basically fabricated the premise due to a misreading of a different thread that was talking about a future ND Sub in WG only. Every time someone revives the thread, people start engaging the topic like it is a serious proposal.
