Paulie did that once. He banned me and then rushed off to the loo. I was left hanging high and dry for around 15 minutes.

Why not try for a better length of time?

It is a common misconception that the word gin derives from the Swiss city, Geneva. In fact, the word gin derives from the French word for juniper— genévrier— which is the fruit that flavours the drink. Its invention is often credited to the physician Franciscus Sylvius. It was sold in pharmacies and used to treat such medical problems as kidney ailments, lumbago, stomach ailments, gallstones, and gout. It spread to England after the Glorious Revolution put William of Orange on the British throne. Dutch gin, also known as jenever or genever, is a distinctly different drink from English-style gin; it is distilled with barley and sometimes aged in wood, giving it a slight resemblance to whisky. Schiedam, in South Holland, is famous for its jenever. Jenever is produced in a pot still and is typically lower in alcohol and more strongly flavoured than London gin.

I'm even named after the inventor! It is pure medicinal!
Over a 180 posts so far and without a doubt this is the ONLY ONE worth reading. Okay...time to go ban myself from my gun forum...the Mods got upset with the Rolex I posted next to my AK-47...I will have none of that!

Ahhhhh no...that's exactly what it meant. IMO, this thread is a complete waste of time, yet GoodWatch's post was the only thing worthwhile wrt reading & information. I thoroughly enjoyed it and therefore gave him the big Nothing more, nothing less.

I know many people who collect both watches and guns. They also collect motorcycles, old cars, and fountain pens. When I first joined here I was really perplexed over the no gun/knife policy. To say that it creates too much controversy is a non issue for me. I've seen some threads here involving watches get very heated. When it gets out of hand, the Mod locks the thread or warns the members. The same could be done with a firearms thread. No difference IMHO. And yes, I've seen many threads on gun forums where people are asked about their watch collections. No problem or complaints from the members or Mods. The bottom line is the fact that this forum is owned by a person who sets the rules as he sees fit. If he doesn't want discussions about guns, knives, or cucumbers, that's his right.

When I first joined here, gun & knife discussions were allowed. And none went well. Watches are far less polarizing, especially when 90%+ of the members of the forum share a common appreciation--or ownership--of Rolex.

In an international community such as this, it is much more rewarding to share our commonality than it is to battle over what are inherently divisive issues. Besides, such issues will never be definitively settled online, so it's easier not to even introduce them.

Just my two cents.

I'm grateful to all the mods not only for creating the rule but also for enforcing it. It makes for a far happier place. Howard, I agree with your sentiments exactly, that's precisely how I feel.

Therefore the most disturbing thing in this whole thread is that photo of Terry Wogan and his spuds. Way too much information!

So this thread didn't make any sense but you read it anyway. That makes about as much sense as the thread itself - brilliant contribution!

Spot on. Nobody has to be here if they don't want to be. I view it as being a guest in someone's house. As you've said, their house, their rules.

I can't understand this "new rule" since I have been reading the forum for years I thought this was odd as there have been many photos of Rolex watches with knifes, guns, cars you name it.

If the moderators. are going to remove my photos because "they" have a problem with it I guess this is their problem not mine.

It is sad when censorship is based upon a personal bias. Is some one really scared of a photo of a gun??? I don't wish to cause a riot I just felt I would not go quietly.

JJ I will miss your postings as I have become quite fond of your views. God bless.

Note to moderators. you should get rid of the smiles with the guns yep this one as there are guns and it might scare someone too

Padi Edit.
Well if you read the very simple rules of TRF which clearly states no guns or Knives etc.We are a watch forum
and there are plenty of gun forums around to to post guns etc.If you want to leave, well thats up to you, but rules are rules and will be strictly adhered too, and the rules are now several years old and come on : well thats just a smiley.

Rule Below very simple to understand.
6. CONTROVERSIAL TOPICS OR POSTS which have or may become disputative including such issues relating to political , race, culture, religion, sex, violence (towards persons or animals), will be subject to the final and absolute discretion of the Moderators to be locked and/or removed without notice to any member. No gun, knife, weapon threads or pictures of such since we are a worldwide forum and many members are not comfortable with this type of material.
Stop your whining and go! You are acting like a XXXXX!

You may have a point, but your, all of a sudden taking the high road, seems to me you have another agenda. I myself hope you will take this up with a PM with those who can address your concern.

If minor children are allowed to wander the internet unescorted, they are going to have access to many more lurid and disturbing images and concepts than found on TRF. As a parent, I absolutely consider it my responsibility to monitor my children's computer usage, among many other things. TRF is not a babysitting service.
