For those who've asked, the cuff links are from New & Lingwood, Jermyn St., London.

Ken, you are the biggest enabler! After seeing all your photos, I had to go and try one on...pictures do NO justice on how beautiful the 5980 is in person. Was surprised how heavy it was! Time to start saving.

Hands down pound for pound the nicest patek made today. I own some pretty nice grand comps but this watch is wow! Every time I put it on it feels special. Only challenge for me is a mental one: it feels to nice to be a sports watch. I like the bracelet version too but that's a little bling for me and the subdials lack contrast and hard to read when actually using the chrono.

5980R is a stunner.

BUT, alligator strap makes it too dressy for me, hence prefer SS on bracelet.

But for a dressier watch, I think it's ideal. Perfect.

Actually Paul for me this strap is anything but dressy and is my only sporty leather strap. To each his own though but the warmth of the RG, brushed bezel and depth of this surreal brown dial are what makes this watch so so special.

If they put it on rubber with a tang, I'm in

Always love looking at it Ken .

EDIT:

Ken do you know if they have something like this for 5980r?

It comes with a second carbon fiber strap that is waterproof. It will still be on a deployment haw ever. I have never put it on.

Interesting mine did not come with second strap and was bought brand new from Patek AD this year. Also not listed on Patek website as well.

PS And this is second one I have owned and nor did the first one.

Ken, I'd call your dealer and demand one if you bought it new. All new ones come with 2 straps. Leather and one like shown here for water activities. Whenever i take mine in water, i change to the waterproof strap. 5726 strap also comes with TWO straps.

I am going to go check my box maybe it is in there and I never saw it. If not I will right away though. Thanks Elliot,

PS. Not that I would ever wear it on it anyway...Cheers,

Now what's my excuse

Well let's see about 5990 showing up, if not 5980r is now in play. Thanks a lot Ken

Jorge thanks for posting the strap in the other thread, that helped me put the pieces together that 5980r could go (more) casual as well.

Would take 5980R all day long over 5990. Now I would add a 5990 to 5980R though as they would make a great Nautilus trio along with 5711.
