Precisely, and that stereotype is hard to overcome
I mean I think we can all see that I'm not GS's biggest fan (<< understatement of the day) but I don't doubt they are very well made and probably worth the price, but the 'pedestrians' will have a hard hard time with the name at that price point, as will a lot of people who love watches as we have seen on this thread with 'I would never buy a seiko over a rolex however good it is' type comments |

I bought my first Grand Seiko long before I bought my first Rolex! But I like to have watches that I don't see on other people.

IMHO, the Grand Seiko line up looks more refined and pleasing to the eye than the current Rolex collection. There are some nice looking watches in the Seiko collection like the SBHG020, but there isn't a single current model Rolex that I would buy.

In your mind, I'm sure this is true.

Why? Everyone is entitled to an opinion and taste is subjective. There is nothing in current line up I would want either and I think my taste is quite good. Oh and yes I have a few Rolex in my collection so I am what one might call a Rolex collector or what you might call someone who needs a good watch pallet cleansing.

Then you use the WTF emoticon with me?? Hmmmm seems to me you are only one getting personal. As for current Rolex line up yes not even one I would want....Sorry. Don't find it hard to believe as we are all entitled our own taste and as I said it is subjective. I also prefer an Audi R8 to an Aston Martin by the way. Now let's all allow others the right to their opinions and play nice!

The debate will never end. At the end if the day one is a seiko and one is a rolex.

Yes, I know it doesn't back up my own taste in any way. But I love it!

There are some Rolex models that I like, however I wouldn't buy them because they are too small for my wrist. |

Personally...and just my 2 cents...1. Two different watches on so many levels and 2. I wouldn't spend the money on a Grand Seiko. I own some Vintage Seiko Automatics & S-Waves...but never would I sink thousands into a Seiko..never.

The SBGA001 "Snowflake" Grand Seiko is THE GS to own if you want a non-GMT Dress Watch. Discounted you can probably get it in the $6K range.
I would positively love to own this reference. It's a Spring Drive that positively stops the wearer dead in his tracks when he glances at the dial. I saw this very watch at Henne in Pittsburgh not too long ago. Nice people there, the whole Shadyside section is awesome too. They had some nice pre-owned Rolexes on display but away from the new stock. Good luck, that is one heckuva watch if you can swing it. |
