Some right and some wrong IMO. The word is relax and enjoy each other here.
This is a good sentiment. I generally steer clear of internet forums because it's obvious to me they bring out the worst in people. I lurked here for years gathering intel for my purchase and was pleasantly amazed at the level of respect you all give each other. Very refreshing in a world seemingly becoming less civilized and respectful daily. It would be a shame if that started creeping in here.

Stepping down off my soapbox now. Have a good evening all.

Hey everyone - I see some very strong opinions and emotions coming forward on this thread. I am also seeing some truthful feelings/comments in regards to owners of ceramic and non-owners.

Again: I cite this post asking for comments/opinions of whether the ceramic on any model was merely an aesthetic addition and not a back step in durability/robustness which ROLEX has cuts it's teeth on in the world of horology.

I never asked about the bracelets....I feel that the previous bracelets on their dive watches and EXP's were suitable to the task of being on a tool watch. As well when ever they were damaged - the replacement parts were reasonably priced and could be changed by the owner. Did they rattle, sure, did they 'feel' cheap'? well if you base light weight on being cheap feeling or not....I love Ti components and they are light - but known for unbeatable durability..

I read some posters (or at least one) who noted the perceived improvements on the bracelets, clasps and ceramic bezels now have us paying upwards of ten thousand dollars for a diver design which still houses the same basic movement, made of the same basic steel, with the same depth rating (DSSD not included) - yet parts replacement and service of said 'improved' Rolex models have increased dramatically.

There will always be schools of old thought and new - and my goal with this post is to remind all of us to reply calmly without negative emotions/comments or personal attacks of each others opinions or meanings of facts as we see them or not.

Thanks again for everyone who has replied to this thread - it certainly exceeded my expectations.'

And finally my opinion on ceramic remains in sync with how one poster stated:

"No china for me".

Did try it - if you read this entire thread - I did own and enjoy a DSSD for six months. BUT I was worried about banging it on anything thus was coy when wearing it - not something a person wants to feel when wearing a tool (sport, outdoor, etc..) watch. It was gorgeous albeit the face appeared a little cramped and the date window small IMHO, but to be honest - I made a few bucks when I sold it since the price has continued to creep up and I negotiated a nice discount when I bought it NIB.

i tryed on the DSSD before i purchased the Sub C and it was just too big and clunky for me. i liked it in the pictures but after i tryed it on i knew it wasnt for me. The Sub is perfect on my wrist. I will admit though i have the itch for the new Blue/Black GMT2 lol

Thanks to this beautiful Forum of course!!!

So if older is better should we go back to the original Bakelite bezels of the original GMT?

The GMT is the tool watch I'm drawn to, as I wear it for its intended purpose in the cockpit. I think ceramic is a great improvement. Durable enough and looks good. On a dive watch I don't know.

This comes from a 16710 coke owner.

This thread is amusing. Didn't a wise man once say that nothing lasts forever. Let's all just buy what we like and like what we buy.

Just a bunch of old beaters....Maybe someday I will be able to get nice new ones.

The TT Sub Black does have great colors though and if they made a purple one I bet you'd buy it.

The whole point of ceramic was to be tougher and resist fading and so on.

Yeah mostly just a bunch of old ones -- 30, 40 and 50 plus year old ones with aluminum inserts and lug holes. Sorry.....No fancy new ceramic ones for me.

for people like me who dont use it as a tool watch and are generally careful when i wear it, it will last WAAAAAAAY longer then the older one and will be much more scratch resistant. Not to mention how much better it looks. but some people just like the old one more. We all like what we like i guess....

My SubC is banged up, dents and scratches all over, but the ceramic still looks brand new.

It's too bad that Rolex won't acknowledge the fragility of the ceramic bezel and replace at no cost.

Now that would be some customer service, but then again I see no incentive for them to do so. Few companies garner such unwavering customers these days. I can't think of another, actually. Even luxury car companies offer voluntary recalls!

That's kind of an unfair comparison. It's a bit of a stretch to call the ceramic bezel a massively defective part that needs to be recalled. The better comparison is do car companies replace parts for free when they are damaged as a result of colliding with something else?

I'm a fan of the ceramic bezel. Looks good and as far as I can tell, it's very durable.

Sold my Sea-Dweller and added some $ to buy the Deepsea.
