Very true - it is a standout design classic.

Its a Saturday evening in Switzerland. Noone works on weekends in there, so "reveal my arse" and wait till the web-master comes to work on Mon AM to push the updates in. Lived in Geneva for 4.5 years, thats how the Swiss roll, normally.

True, altho most of their lines are typical round shapes. Corums have a distinct shape as do some Cartiers, like Santos and Roadster, but these are not nearly as successful as the Gentas, just shows it takes real skill to get something both original and desirable.

I must admit, having looked at some of the (clearly very digitally retouched) images online, such as in this GQ feature, if the watch dial 'pops' as much in real life I may change my currently quite negative view to a more positive one.

I believe it should be better in the flesh, but I don't think its one with mass appeal and AP put so much hype around it that its anticlimactic.

I think they should have limited the models to just the Perpetual calendar and chrono for the release, leave out the time/date model all together. Then spend time to think how to get that right, like the dial.

Obviously they though a lot about the case and glass, but if you make a case and glass to highlight the dial then why make such a plain dial on the time only version. Its like the dail was an afterthought.

It would have been better if they put a tapisserie dial with the small hobnails like on the 15202 instead of the giant white bland thing.

Its the RG chrono I'd be interested in if anything. Never liked big vacant dials and never will.

So now on the AP website, post zero launch, it just says "thanks for watching" with no option to click on anything. What gives, is it me?!

Guys, use this link to bypass the main page stuck on the 11.59 vid straight to the watches

And here is the link to the possible replacement of the 15400! THE 15500!!

https://www.audemarspiguet.com/en/wa....OO.1220ST.01/

https://www.audemarspiguet.com/en/wa....OO.1220OR.01/

https://www.audemarspiguet.com/en/wa....OO.D002CR.01/

https://www.audemarspiguet.com/en/wa....OO.1220ST.02/

What have they done.. they ruined it for me this is not even comparable to the 15400!
The 15500 is now 10.4 mm where as the 15400 was 9.8.. with classy thin long hour markers.. the new one just looks a bit off..idk

Here is the older more elegant 15400 IMO for comparison.

What do you guys think?

The new AP line will be a huge commercial disappointment for them, but hopefully, the investments and innovation in movements will benefit other lines.

Such a minor aesthetic change with the 15500, yet so disappointing. Not a fan. Love the 39mm chronos though.

Its 38 mm, the 39 is the size of the watches on top from the screen shot he took. I assume its going to be marketed more towards women. Still quite nice though.. wonder how it would look on a bigger guys wrist.

I think the 15500 looks a lot better without the Automatic text at 6

Wonder if they’ll keep the 15400? Maybe AP will offer both 15500 and 15400 together. 15400 is still currently on the AP website today.

I hope so. No silver dial in 15500 is disappointing.

Agree with the lack of “Automatic” text, but prefer the longer markers of 15400 over the 15500. The 15500 markers, at least to me, feel short and stubby.

I’m indifferent to the “Automatic” text at 6 on the 15400. But with the shorter indices and no text at 6, it’s too much open space on the 15500, imho.

Thought the 15500s might be in 40mm, esp with the chrono downsize.

Dang I just got my 15400OR last year too haha. I am not too bummed out, I like the smaller/slimmer profile of the existing watch. It somehow looks classier.

The new 15500 reminds me of what Rolex did with the SubC and their maxi dial for the newer generation of consumers.

15400 is 9.8 mm and 15500 is 10.4 mm thick. The old version was so much better. The dial configuration was elegant and sporty, but now AP managed to Maxi-dial the RO.
