Love it and it is the perfect watch for me

My favorite watch I have ever owned...after a slight mod.

I love the SD. It was my first nice watch back in 2003. It is the one that started this sickness for me

The cyclops is glued on. You can probably heat it and slip a string underneath to remove the cyclops or something like that.

If I'm not mistaken, the AR coating is on the cyclops and not the crystal it self. However, if it is on the crystal...since the crystal is sapphire, you can use an abrasive that has a hardness below 8 to remove it. Steel wool, maybe?

It would be nice to hear if he removed the cyclops or if there’s an aftermarket crystal or some such thing ….

I just had a look and it looks like the AR is under the crystal..so you'd have to remove the crystal to clean that off.

I swapped the crystals. LA WW did the work for me. They pressure tested to specs, etc. all good to go.

I read a lot about removing the cyclops on the SD 43 before moving forward. Considered buying a second OEM SD 43 crystal and having someone remove the cyclops as I have heard about (heating up/popping it off) so I could revert back to factory specs if I needed to in the future. I read that the cyclops is affixed to the crystal in a new way on the SD 43 and that the crystal itself is recessed and the cyclops is seated to it in a this new fashion (maybe to keep the cyclops in place at depth?). I also read that someone had tried their darnedest to remove it the heated up way and gave up for fear that it would damage the crystal.

I decided to keep the factory crystal as is and swap it for an aftermarket crystal with the correct crystal gasket. The crystal/gasket is made specifically for the SD 43. I then had LA WW remove the cyclops from the new crystal. The old heat it up trick works on it. The cyclops is not "super affixed" to a recessed spot crystal like the OEM version.

End results...dream watch ! For me, it looks so much better without the distracting cyclops and it is in-line with the SD's long and legendary heritage. It is the way the 50th should have been made IMO.

And I have the original crystal/gasket if needed in the future.

Thank you for the update.

So what crystal did they use? Is it aftermarket or OEM?

It's nice there's no hate. Just many tiny wrists.

And for all that keep harping on about the cyclops; Rolex would have installed it on all dwellers from the start if they had the means to do so. Thicker crystal made the magnification hard to get right and the pressure under deeper depths would see it popping off. It's why the Deepsea still doesn't have one.

It would look a lot better to me if the date window was placed further right, just like they used to do with the 1660 and 1665.

With this SD43, the cyclops magnification gives the optical ilusion of placing the date window where it should be.

Still my favorite black diver, with or without the bubble.

First of all, congrats on an amazing watch.

But as far as nobody liking it? You are very much mistaken, my friend.

I've never been a cyclops fan so I prefer the 116600 in ceramics or the 16660, 16660 in steel bezels. I tried on the SD43 and it worked well for my large wrist size and the new features are very cool but I didn't spring for it and instead stuck with the SD4k as my daily. Now, these pics of the SD43 sans-cyclops have me completely rethinking my initial feelings on the watch. It looks SO much better to me without the wart! Thanks for the posts RustyW.

Exactly, The 116600 Sea Dweller 4K was produced from 2014 to 2017 for 3 years. The Mk1 dial 126600 Sea Dweller 43 was only produced for one year, it's the true 50th anniversary dial Sea Dweller.

I have the 126603 and absolutely LOVE it. The only drawback is that I wore it for about 8 weeks straight after getting it, then cleaned it and put it away and switched back to my Daytona and now that watch feels very small and delicate. :(
