I completely understand this, but I'm curious if this is something that you have posted for customers to see? I wonder if the AD who's the subject of this hit job of a thread also has this policy and if they have it posted.

I usually ask my AD what his preference for payment is. I've wired for some, paid by CC for some. He's considerate enough to offer me watches and I can be considerate in how I pay him, if it makes a difference on his end.

I'm also extremely curious if the OP pulled down the nasty Google review once the AD caved and gave him his links.

Merchants get killed by these fees and some of those rewards cards charge almost 6%. When the average transaction in my business is over $5k the fees get out of control.

I do however offer a cash discount that many take me up on. It's only fair to split the saving when we keep the CC company out of my pocket.

It’s funny how some of you are so bamboozled into thinking you have to kiss the A/Ds a$$es in order to buy a Rolex. Bottom line is it’s a business transaction like any other. The customer is in control not the jewelry store as this store quickly found out from this client. Nothing I asked for was unreasonable when paying full boat on a highly marked up watch and nothing I haven’t gotten from other Rolex ADs in the area in the past.

Hmmm... Ross insists he needs the extra links so that the watch will fit his wrist. In his Google review he wrote, "... and they refused to furnish an extra link so I could actually wear my $15,000 dollar time piece." Yet, if you look at his "Incoming" thread (linked above), you will see a photo of the watch ON HIS WRIST. It is not hanging loose (unclasped) because it doesn't fit. No, it is on his wrist as if he wore it into the store. It's not tight and cutting into his flesh. It appears to fit his wrist perfectly. And nowhere in that thread does he even mention the watch not fitting his wrist.

Not trying to defend OP here as I think the argument is ridiculous. However, maybe the wrist shot was taken after the links were installed?

No, the wrist shot was taken in the AD's store when he went in to purchase the watch.

I don't believe the the AD should provide extra links at no cost but, let's be honest, only providing a bracelet big enough to fit a 7.7" wrist is a bit antiquated.

The average man and woman are much bigger than even 50 years ago. I have a 7.5" wrist and am 6' 175, not a very big guy, and I do not have to take out a link on a jubilee and only one link on an oyster.

Maybe at Rolex prices they can provide enough links to fit an 8" wrist at MSRP.

Didn’t he pay for the links at the same time as purchasing his watch except with CC because the bank check wasn’t enough? They didn’t install them that day? I truly don’t know as I’ve never been lucky or patient enough to purchase from an AD.

Yes, he apparently paid for two links the day he picked up the watch, but the AD had to order them. He said somewhere in this thread that the AD (during the phone call after the OP posted a scathing review on Google) offered to install the link himself when it arrives.

And, please note -- the OP apparently claims to need ONE link to make the bracelet fit but wanted another, extra, link for some unknown purpose.

Yeah, the story doesn’t add up now. Sorry for posing my questions.

As for the links, I will not comment more than, there are many people in America that struggle with weight issues. I don’t know if the OP is one of them or not but possibly there is good reason for the 2nd extra link?

For the record, his first response to you was unacceptable.

He did not, the negative review is still there, fairly front and center actually as its the only negative review in over a year.
also in the original incoming post, not a single bit of negativity or anger, nothing about the check or the links, nothing negative to say at all. Downright happy. Even got chocolate and sparkling water. Also, the watch looks like it fits quite well on the original incoming post, maybe with easy link and the inner clasp adjustment(the 3 spots) could've been looser, but definitely didn't look like it needed an extra link
I have never gotten chocolates with my Rolex purchases.

Me Thinks there is more to this story than the OP is telling.

Frankly, leaving your review and then coming back here to show off your ‘win’ shows you to be severely lacking in class.

i support OP. demanding extra $$ for links is cutting corners and wholly unnecessary; should be extended as a common courtesy. do you folks like paying extra for front and rear carpeting when purchasing a new vehicle??

I agree. I once ate a 10% charge for an AMEX phone order, probably the worst way to process a credit card. I would never do that again

This must be your first Rolex purchase. ADs are akin to the “Soup Nazi” in Seinfield. If they ask for a bank check, wire, cash, or blood plasma, you hand it over and step to the right.

One time in Paris, and I bought a new gold watch needed a small extra link, (i had put on some pounds, (since I have lost them all 😉) …this was at dPlace Vendôme, at a very fine boutique. The salesperson told me she thought lit would add about 400 euros, I said to please go ahead. This was about 6/7 years ago.

Once it came back to be fitted that day, the sales person mentioned mentioned that the Manager of the store said the link would be gratis. I replied that that was very nice of him to do offer it. She responded: He knows you will buy from us again, and you had selected a great beautiful timepiece and he wanted me to have the watch fitted perfectly for me at no extra cost.

Classy…I didn’t ask for a courtesy no charge on link. The price of the watch was already of high value, I didn’t ask for a discount on the watch.

I sent them a thank you note the next day.

After that, I have been back to the boutique, as predicted by the manager.

Unfortunately in this country, we pay a ton for our own healthcare because of the obesity epidemic. Now We have to pay for their Rolex links.

Perhaps Rolex is basing their standard bracelet sizes on European wrists.

Can you imagine how open to abuse this would be?
Ultimately Rolex don’t need to “throw” anything in. They’ll sell the watches regardless.

I do take your point in an ideal world, but in this case it’s a sellers market.
