Hi team ALS, looking to get my first Lange! I would like to seek your opinions would you rather get the 1815 annual calendar or the Saxonia annual calendar?

From what I have read and researched:

1815 AC
- only manual winding AC
- newer movement with amazing simultaneous advancement pusher for quick setting
- Arabic numeral dial

Saxonia AC
- Big date
- automatic
- almost exact same movement as a langamatik PC
- but in a way older watch released many years ago and slightly more expensive (more depreciation / loss if bought at retail?)

Would really appreciate your comments and thoughts and loooking forward to joining the Lange family.

Personally I would go with the Saxonia for the following reasons:
1. The date is the key display on a calendar watch, and the readability of the big date is far superior. It's also a signature Lange feature, unlike all those tiny numbers around the subdial.
2. The day is also easier to read since it doesn't share a subdial with the date
3. I find the Langematik base movement with the 3/4 rotor more interesting to look at, and resets the second hand to zero when you pull the crown. Very useful!
4. You can put it on the winder and forget about it, and no need to set the calendar next time you put it on. Or you can leave it off the winder and enjoy winding it when you want to.
5. It has the same pusher to advance all the displays at once as the 1815, but you need a toothpick to press it.

Hope that helps!

I agree with #1-#4. I don't believe #5 is true. >99% sure that the Saxonia AC doesn't have the same single-push corrector that the Langematik Perpetual Calendar has. When you push that same button on the Sax AC, I believe only the date changes. That was the one truly major drawback of the Saxonia AC compared to the Langematik Perpetual.

Welp, ended up listing my Zeitwerk. Got an order in with one of my favorite independents and won't be able to have both.

Thanks for correcting that! I was making some assumptions based on the Langematik Perpetual and the look of the pushers. I couldn't find any specifics online, but indeed they would probably mention it on the webpage if it had this feature.

I guess you really need to keep it on the winder then since adjusting all the indicators each time would pretty annoying.

Thanks for your perspectives! Do you think there will be a new automatic annual calendar coming out? Or a new langematic perpetual?

By the way would it be fair to say that the movement on the Saxonia AC is superior to the 1815 AC?

Thanks guys 😊

They just released the new automatic lange 1 perpetual so I doubt we'll see another Langematik perpetual. I feel like they're slowly phasing out the Langematik-based movements (just a guess on my part though).

No idea on the annual calendars. I wouldn't worry about this and just decide if there's anything you love in the current catalog!

As for which movement is superior, Lange builds all their movements to the same standards, so I think you can judge based on the features and aesthetics you prefer!

Honestly I really love the Langematik Perpetual. If you can find a good price on a used one that would be the best of both worlds! That has the single pusher advance and it's a perpetual to boot.

I'm guessing the huge drop in production last year, elimination of discounting, and a few other policy changes have helped the brand a lot.

For reference, listed my 2020 Zeitwerk and it's sold near ask pending pick up on Friday.

Bartek, don't overdo it. But I actually liked this classic dial design on the Lange 1815 series.

I saw your listing and it was very fairly priced compared to others currently on the market. I am not surprised someone jumped on it quickly.

Congrats on the quick sale and look forward to the incoming that will replace it!

Thanks! Having someone pickup VS stress involved with mailing a nice piece is really worth an easy transaction IMO. Thankfully never had an issue yet with mailing watches but why play a risky game when you don't have to! :) Got a lot more for it than dealers offered too.

Questions for ALS fans and experts:

1. 1815 Chrono - Worthwhile investment? or should I buy pre-owned?

2. WG Odysseus - Long waiting list?

1. I don't think Langes should be bought as an investment. But if value retention is important for you, I would go pre-owned. There looks to be some good deals out there, especially for 2nd gen models.

2. In Singapore, the waiting time is roughly 2 months after placing a deposit down at the Lange boutique.

Perhaps not the best strap-colour for my skintone...
Any suggestions next to OEM black leather. Perhaps olive geen nubuck? Navy blue? Taupe? Who has an 1815 on non OEM strap ?

I agree with this. Go used and if it appreciates, then great. If not, then only a slight loss. :)

That’s a beauty.

What kind of discount should one expect on a standard Lange second hand? Standard model. Not the hot ones.
