On some watches, there is a "safe zone" where you should not change the date. The tip, when you are in this "safe zone" (usually between 20h and 6h next morning), is to advance the hour hand out of the "safe zone", change the date, then move the hands to their correct place again.
Rolex watches are very well made: no safe zone The date will change by tself at midnight, and you can change it everywhere as soon as you are not under water The theorical service interval is 4 to 7 years, all the gaskets will be changed, so it is good to stick to this 5 years interval if you get it under water (swimming or washing it). If it does not see water, you can wait 20 years if you want, but the movement will run dry, more parts having to be changed. (economically, the "if it doesn't break, don't fix it" rule is cheaper than the 5 years service interval). A pressure check every year can be done, to be sure that it will not be flooded.. but I think that it is more for the peace of the owner than for the watch.

Stock picture of one of my Rollies. This watch never stopped ticking for 13 years straight until just recently. The MOP diamond sapphire dials are absolutely amazing. |

Awesome Mod Jocke, Is that a Date wheel from a DJ?
I am always looking for a good mod, and I just picked up a Plat YM. I might become the second member of the Triple Red Club. |

If you look at the pics posted of the YM on this thread there seems to be different between the older ones (without rehaut engraving) and the newer ones with rehaut engraving). The older ones have more of that dazzling effect in its dial with grainy platinum while the newer ones looks uniform in the texture and colour which doesn't have as much of that dazzling effect.
I wonder what was the reason for Rolex to alter the dial, doesn't seem like an improvement to me in fact the opposite. Mine has the rehaut engraving. Does anyone have any additional info about this? I'm not having much luck with the 'search' function for this question. I picked up a new YM I this weekend and noticed that the dial isn't as 'shimmery' in the sunlight as the older model I had a few years ago. I need more shimmer! :-) |

But from what I remember hearing, there was a certain year/model where they went from a sparklier dial with darker/bolder red "Yacht-Master" to a softer/flatter dial with a thinner red font. Hopefully experts can chime in for you. |

Blue 116622
Purchased this beauty several days ago. Still finding & peeling off the stickers. When indoors or when sky is grey the blue dial becomes very non-reflective, and "soft". Under sunlight it becomes very shiny & reflective..For a sports watch, it isn't too heavy, and is relatively thin; compared to other hi-line sports watches I've owned. Lastly, over the last 48 hours, its gained ONE second per day! Sorry about the poor quality of pics; very difficult to photograph........
