ALS Novelties 2014
Over the course of the past two months I've had another opportunity to visit the ALS boutique here in Singapore, on the occasion to have been invited for seeing the 2014 novelties.
The 2014 novelties were here again earlier in the year, but as part of a 'world tour' they happened to be back in Singapore. Since I had missed the first time, this second opportunity was not to be forgotten. The pieces were all prototypes, one of them actually had no movement inside. It was strikingly unusual to turn the watch upside down and discover that the back of it is empty! As a result, all watches had no protective cover/transparent plastic as you shall notice in the pictures. This enabled for a much better trying-out experience. Majority of shots are with the 5D Mk III and either the 100/2.8 IS USM Macro or 50/1.4 USM lens. Richard Lange Terraluna Perpetual Next: 1815 Tourbillon Continues...

Very nice! But the Terra Nova is probably a tad too thick for my taste.

Lange 1 Perpetual Tourbillon in Rose Gold (originally introduced 2012 SIHH in different metal). Overall the most impressive piece, to me, was the Richard Lange Terraluna Parpetual. At one moment, and while it was on my wrist, I did continue the conversation with the attending boutique staff - not long after that, the Terraluna was not really felt much on my wrist, and to be honest it was hard to part with it/take it off later... (not that anyone would think otherwise). Once again, I cannot thank the staff of the ALS in ION Orchard for the invitation and also for the courtesy exhibited during another visit. As I am looking actively to purchase a similar dress piece (in precious metal), ALS have been on my radar for quite some time. Their pieces are truly exceptional, especially the hi-end complications.

Thanks for the great photos showing some of the amazing watches Lange rolled out this past year. I really like the Teraluna, but as was previously stated, it's size presents some wearability problems. The 1815 Tourbillion is another watch that deserves a serious look by collectors.

Just got a BNIB Saxonia from DavidSW yesterday. After a couple of blissful hours, I accidentally dropped it on to my tile floor. Case dinged big time, crystal popped out, and movement stopped running. Crushed.
Took it to the ALS boutique here in NYC this morning. Need to have it sent out for service/repairs. Likely to take 8-12 weeks. Disappointed.

Visited the Lange boutique in NYC -- just great!!
I tried on the 1815 and 1815 chrono, and I just want to say that they are much lower profile on the wrist than the other Langes (height is manageable). Extremely comfortable and wearable. This is why the internet falls short when really getting to know these works of magic (of course ). Got to see it on yourself. And the case back on the chrono was to die for -- absolutely beautiful and fully in view. They apparently had sold their Datograph, so I'll have to get back soon! |
