Rolex model given names are childish and inaccurate
It really irks me when I see these stupid names being used when a Rolex model is referenced.
Please allow me to elaborate: - Coke - the Coca Cola logo is red and white, the bezel is red/black - Pepsi - the Pepsi logo is red/white/blue while the bezel is only red/blue, surely Superman or Spiderman would have been more appropriate - Batman - this character's costume is more like black/yellow (see the logo background and belt) while the bezel is black/blue. - Kermit - it's a green frog and the watch has a green bezel and black dial All of the above don't make sense to me and I will never use them. I find them childish and inappropriate for such an amazing brand like Rolex. I see no issue in calling a watch ''126710BLRO''. Is anyone else who feels the same way? |

Me too! Plus, in all seriousness, I know some of the reference numbers but not many and the nicknames immediately identify what someone is talking about. I wouldn’t have made many of them up! But who made up ‘warthog’ for our war-horse attack plane that’s been in (successful) service for decades? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I absolutely agree but i find myself having to use the stupid nicknames so that people know what im refering to...for some reason the coke and pepsi thing doesn’t bother me bit kermit come on |

it is what it is... however when an AD uses those nicknames, i turn around and walk out. Ive done it mid-sentence before because i hate it that much. Regular people i guess its fine, but people representing the brand absolutely not. So its about context to me.
Dont try to sell me a cartoon or comic book character, but feel free to talk about your comic book watch ...if that makes sense.

It’s not professional and it’s also not a watch forum so to me it’s a basic expectation of professional behaviour Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There are tons of AD rants on the forums. Expecting them to use the correct names is reasonable compared to most things i read, like people walking in with a pile of cash expecting them to produce a watch and are angry when they dont. If my kids english teacher used "slang" in the classroom I would get them a new teacher. Its slang all the same. Not appropriate for all settings to me.

Hmm. Do you talk to every sales person? Because i have met quite a few at my AD that literally have no idea what time it is. Then there are others that are a wealth of knowledge. Tough to judge the entire AD on one sales person. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My first AD was strictly reference numbers, very proper, treated my like an A-Hole, and they pretty much forgot my name the moment I walked out the door. So, this name or that name, don't care. How you treat me is far more important. |

I'm okay with the ones listed by OP, mostly because I will never give up "Bluesy."

If watch nicknames bothered me to the point of doing a thread on it perhaps I would have to seek more challenges in my life as in the big scheme of thing nicknames for watches doesn't rank high up there.
PS It's a watch forum loosen up a bit and roll with it!
