You're not a spoiled kid at all! The fact that you appreciate what you were given is wonderful. And you will definitely hold on to your first Rolex because the history it represent to you.

[QUOTE=couturegirl;4757041]Does anyone else find this thread super gauche? Maybe instead it would be better to post bank statements and portfolios or maybe a reference letter from your banker? Or we could all just write down what color our AMEX are?

I for one do not. For some, they may have purchased their Rolex(s) as a statement of their financial standing. I purchased mine because it was designed as an aviators watch and I was told by a naval aviator 46 years ago when I was five years old that it was, "The finest aviators watch money can buy." Seeing as how I have spent my entire adult working career as a military aviator, I feel it only appropriate that it be the watch that I own. I by no means will ever get rich in my profession and I am sure that there are plenty others that have posted a response to this question that feel the same about their profession.

Well said J. D.
My Dad was a diver and did contract work for the military in the 1950s. He was also a machinist. He couldn't afford a fancy Swiss watch so made a brass waterproof case into which any watch could be inserted. I became fascinated with diving at a very young age (5, like you) and back then in the 1960s a Submariner was the watch to have for a diver. (Incidentally, it was ONLY divers who wore divers' watches. If you saw someone with one, you immediately knew the guy was a diver.) I'm still diving, though I am far from wealthy. It took me over 40 years but I finally reached the point in my life where I could fulfill that lifelong desire for a Rolex Submariner, the finest dive watch.

In the background is the fluke of a historic schooner anchor I found embedded in the rocky bottom of Lake Huron.

Porsche Dealer General Manager

Got the 116200 in Jan 2013 (1st Rolex)
Got the 116710BLNR in Feb 2014 (2nd Rolex)

Both watches were purchased after our Porsche dealer won the "Premier Dealer" award from Porsche Cars Canada / PCNA, two consecutive years in a row now.

Oh my good Dr Tom... Working my way up to my Daytona :) give me some time. I have to give you credit on that incoming platinum Daytona. I tried that one on at my AD here (they must really like me). It was mesmerizing! The look, feel and weight made for an impressive few moments with the piece. Anyway congrats my friend and keep all the awesome posts coming. Did I see one with a red Panamera (incl PCCBs) in the background?

Cheers.

I have no issue with people showing off the fruits of their labour. In fact, I think it's one of the great things about this board and is probably why most of us are members. The "Incoming" threads are all about sharing a hard earned acquisition and the numerous ensuing congratulatory posts speak to the fact that: a) we appreciate the effort it required to acquire that piece, and b) we are WISes and live vicariously through others' purchases. :D

I'd never heard of PVW bourbon before, but after hearing people wax poetic about it here, I'm keeping my eyes peeled and more than willing to spend the reportedly $600 it'll cost to get my hands on a bottle.

Had a great meal at a 3-star Michelin restaurant and want to share? Fantastic! I've been to several and would love to hear others' experiences so that I might add them to my list of places to visit.

Bought yourself an Alpina B7? Photos, please! Love that line, particularly in the gun metal grey finish.

However, I fail to understand the link between the choice of one's Rolex (or any watch for that matter) to these experiences/objects and how they are a "match". That's all.
I got a few Pappy Van Winkle 20 year bottles for sale, if you are interested. I am, however, selling them for 850, and not 600.

And yes, it is the best bourbon you will ever taste in your life. Bought 4 bottles and keeping 1 for myself.

I am putting the money from the sale of the 3 other bottles into a new watch fund.

What a great story! I've deployed with my DSSD many times. I had many mentors tell me to get a Rolex because "you can always get home on your Rolex." I purchased mine after saving a few years, selling a portion of my knife collection, and saving up my extra deployment allowances. It was a good way to celebrate 20 years of service in the Army. Mine has been on jumps, amphibious operations, and numerous deployments around the world. I'm still impressed with its performance.

Thank YOU for your service to our country!

BTW, Kona coffee is my coffee of choice. I discovered it on a TDY to Hawaii a few years ago.
