First post Daytona question.
Long story short. Friend died has a Daytona at court appointed apraiser. Family will sell it to me. I don't know how to price it. I want a deal which is no problem with family since I will gladdly sell it back at the same price if they feel they want it for whatever reason. It is supposedly TT with a black face. Anyhow what should I look for and what is the most I should pay given that the appraiser is truthful in saying it is complete and original? What would be the no brainer price for any model in any condition? In other words what could I buy any model, movement and materials for and not get hurt without worring about condition in this economy?

SS would go for 8,800 usd and Up in good condition papers and all, TT for around 6,800 usd up to 7,400 That would be my estimation.
Just from what I have seen before...

I think it will the kind of situation where I have to be prpared when I see it to make my determination. I cannot seem to disrespectful to the family but must cover my own. Therefore I think that asking to take pictures will be a strech. As for papers and boxes, I think that I must assume that there are none as this was a highly publicized murder theft and these were recovered. I am more interested in helping the family and having a keepsake in the memory of my friend. This will not be a buy sell unless they want it back. So I do not want to short change them but do want to have a baseline since they have no interest in watches and that is what it is to them, just a watch.

And I forgot to add that this may also be charity if it turns out to be fake since I would not ask for the money back. I feel that this is unlikely given my friends nature but I do not know the history.

RFXMM,
Thats a great gesture! Helping out your friend's family in this difficult time is amazing, we need more thoughtful people like you in this world. Now to your question: You can find a 3-4 year old Black Face TT Daytona somewhere in the neighborhood of 7,000-7,500 USD with Box and Papers. Since, you are doing this to help out the family and keepsake for your friend's memory - 7K will be a fair deal, irrespective of the box and papers. This will not be short changing the family and you will get your friend's watch with memories. In my opinion, you can never put a price tag to memories and emotinal attachment! Just my .02 |

RFXMM, very sorry about the loss of your friend. I don`t want to seem like a jerk, Just make sure its a good watch. Do you know for certain where he bought it from...just make sure he bought what he thought he was buying.

Would that fit into a new purchase between 97 and 04. I remember the last thing he bought was a turn-o-graph and it was "just in", which by the way was never recovered and he was wearing it. And he had the daytona prior to that.

Last Zenith Daytona I believe was 2000
Someone will chime in for sure, but yea, that sounds about right. Rob

Not a Zenith 4030; actually a 4130, year 2000 to present...
I'd say depending on condition $6-7K... Ask Anastasios [Tempoking] he knows his Daytonas

But the subdials on the newer black dial Daytona's aren't solid gold colour
But then again the hour battens are too thick for a Zenith Rob.
