Dating a movement from its serial number?
Is there a way to date a movement from its serial number?
The movement is a Cal.1560, serial number is D63406 |

I think that the D on that movement simply means that it came with a date function..
The popular charts available for dating Rolex watches have been compiled from enthusiasts sharing their purchase data, and, more recently, noting when certain serial prefixes are first seen in public.. therefore, even case serial data is just an educated guess.. None of this data has ever been correlated to the movements that are "married" to the case upon assembly. It is presumed, and likely, that Rolex maintains a build sheet for every Rolex made so would know by the movement number when it was made and exactly what watch case a particular movement went into originally.. Send them a letter and see if they will provide that information to you.
