holes vs no holes
I am currently talking to one of the sellers here on trf and they have two very similar watches I am interested in. They described one as having holes in the case and the other as having no holes in the case. Im new to watches so I dont really know exactly what that means. What does this mean and which one would be the better buy? Thanks.

I am assuming he is refering to lug holes. Lug holes are what hold the spring bars in place which connect the bracelet to the watch case. The newer models do not have lug holes that go the entire way through each lug.

I have watches with and without.. the ones with lug holes have a rougher look to them.. and removing the bracelet is a lot easier... some people love watches with holes in the lugs...

Ahh yes. A picture is worth a thousand words.
Larry educated me on the holes Vs. no-holes prior to be getting my Series-Y Sub (circa 2002). I like the holes...but recently got a GMT II D-Series (circa 2006) with no holes. Guess what...I like that watch as well! It's really a cosmetic preference thing. |

Now that diving and fishing season is over I put the origional bracelet bracelet back on my Sub ND. It was wearing a black NATO for the summer. It took about 3 minutes to swap it over with a straightend HD paper clip. Love the holes.

Holes make it a lot easier to swap to a NATO strap, and to remove the bracelet for cleaning. I would take one with the holes over one without. Just my 2 cents, though.

I have a bergeon tool - looks like a tiny u-shaped fork. Makes non-lug hole strap changes a snap. Love the lug holes though. I was hoping to find a mint GMT II Coke with lug holes, but the series D I got was too good to pass up.
I *may* switch to a super Jubilee bracelet, but if not, I don't see myself changes the bracelet anyway. |

Hate the look of holes. Don't like holes on clasp either

For me I like lug holes and plastic crystals. If I think modern Rolex I want sapphire crystal and no lug holes. This leaves 20 years on most models with lug holes and sapphire in the middle.
