Giving my first watch as a gift to someone!
Hello all,
It's been a while since I've posted a thread here and I thought today would be a great day to get back into it! Long story short this person has not only become my mentor but an amazing friend despite our 15 years of age difference. Me being 22 and just starting in my field, he has given me so many amazing opportunities and his connections (along with my hard work) have lead to my current employment. It is unfortunate that I currently do not work for him due to the current economic situation still affecting him; but I am sure we will be work colleagues soon enough. SO To thank him for everything I couldn't think of a better gift than a watch which I will give to him over a steak dinner (also my treat to him) tonight! Now it isn't a Rolex (financially I'm not in a position to buy one for somebody else at this point in my life) but it is a very nice Citizen Eco Drive which I know he will absolutely love. I can't describe how excited I am to give this to him! I would love to hear some of your stories - ESPECIALLY those about giving a fine time piece like a Rolex to a friend, family member or colleague! Looking forward to reading! |

Nice touch, good on you and congrats on finding someone who's had such an impact on your life!
Nancy and I bought her son Grant a 14060 a couple of years ago. Here's the thread: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...hlight=Ironman

I read your thread and that is an awesome story! It may sound "corny" - but finishing an iron man event is truly an achievement that deserves a crown! Thanks for sharing! |

This is not something you want to do without practice. So send me a few watches to make sure you have the protocol down correctly.
Seriously, it's a great gesture that I know will be much appreciated. I gave my boss a military watch with a 12 hour bezel [from West Coast Time] I knew he could use in his constant travels. Just sent it to him in the mail and he [already having a very nice Ebel chrono w/ Zeinith El Primero movement] loved it. Giving watches is as cool as receiving them, no doubt. Let us know how it turns out, dP

I forgot to add I had the back engraved to personalize it even more. I know that may be a faux-pas with Rolex but with a watch like this I really think it makes it even more special. I will definitely let you guys know how it goes! |

We'll I'm actually really happy to get some support from TRF on my engraving choice! It seems to be a hot button issue at times but I also realize this is a Citizen Eco Drive and not a Rolex lol

I'm purchasing a SS Sub from David SW for a partner of mine whom in these troubled times has managed to build the business up. He has had a Seiko on his wrist for far too long and the new peice will compliment him in any business function. He has no idea it is comming, he is always saying to me " is that another watch", of which I reply yes, loosen up some franklins and get yourself one. This is going to blow him away!

That's an amazing gesture of appreciation and love.
It's not so much the gift that your mentor will appreciate......it's the thought and love behind it. I'm sure he will cherish that gift forever. Best wishes - JJ

Thats a really nice gesture.
I gave both my cousin and brother a watch 2 years ago for Christmas. I was in a much better financial situation then vs now. I got them both Victorinox watches, because they liked the brand. I think watch is a very meaningful present. You mentor will cherish it forever!! |

Well guys I gave him the watch last night and he LOVED it! It completely caught him off guard and it perfectly matches his taste in watches. He was truly touched by it and got very sentimental for a few minutes which really showed how grateful he was. It felt so good watching him open it and man oh man the steaks were tasting great last night!
Thanks again to everyone who contributed to the thread! |

I'll mirror what everyone else has said, what a nice thing to do. Although the watch is a wonderful gesture, the thought behind the gift is worth a thousand Rolex's in my opinion.
