Changing the bezel to a ceramic one
I have salivated over the SS sub date for the past three years, I am comfortable purchasing the watch after almost two years checking this forum and educating myself in my first Rolex purchase. But after reading that they would most likely be changing the bezel to a ceramic one in the coming year this has left me scratching my head. Should I wait another year? I wanted to get your feedback on his subject.
And if I do commit to a watch at present which SS Sub Date model year is it? Thank you again for your input Inderveer |

pure hype and all the Rolex line up will have it by mid 2010.Now thats the cut off point when the Swatch group the supplier of hairsprings to most of the Swiss watch industry including Rolex. Will refuse to supply outside the Swatch group so why wait get your sub now,the other if they bring one out will only be a slightly modded old one. Dont read to much into the case date stamps thats only a rough indication when the case was stamped. And not necessarily when a complete watch was assembled but V is the latest case date stamp

You need to look over the new case design, which is more squared, and gives a blocky look, and the new ceramic is much more shiny, so to me, they just don't look like they do now
The Ceramic Sub will likely look like the ceramic SS GMT II (except the bezel will be a 60 minute one)... so take a look and see if that is the look you want.. As for me....... I'll take one now, thank you....

One other update for the ceramic sub will be the clasp. The bracelet will probably go to PCL's too like the GMT.

The Submariner has always been a "shadow" of the Sea Dweller. What I mean is that it's very similar to the SD in appearance and style. Having said that, I think there is a chance that the new Submariner will be very close in style, size, and design to the new Deep Sea Sea Dweller.....minus the HEV and a bit thinner in profile. It may have a slightly shallower depth rating also. I would also expect to see the same ceramic bezel on the new Sub along with blue lum. The bracelet will probably have the polished center links and of course, the new clasp. What I don't expect to see is a Titanium case back. Thats my prediction.

Why would Rolex take their most popular sport's watch and turn it into a thinner 43mm DSSD? Speculation is fun but it's just speculation. Here's mine. The price will go up $750 to $1000.

Ummm I think it will look exactly like the new YG/WG/TT case....
As Tools said, look to the GMT II C.... Why would they have the precious metal and TT Sub in one design and then redesign the SS Sub into a smaller DSSD? Sorry guys, you have already seen the SS Sub, look to the WG version. Only question is will it have PCL or not. Lets hope not!

Get one now, wait a while (possibly years), then get a new one with ceramic. I'm not an expert, but I would venture to say that the current Sub (non-ceramic) may increase in popularity once they are out of production, so it may be smart to get one now.

hmmmm.... if you can wait for at least 1 more year, then do so... as mentioned, you'll be getting an "upgraded" sub... a lot of mixed views here though... some like the sleeker design of the current one, some wouldn't mind the ceramic bezel, etc...
if you can't wait, why not try on the sub LV? |

Speaking as someone who owns a Deepsea, the best thing that could come with the new Sub would have to be the Glidelock clasp. The cerichrome and new hair-spring are just window dressing.
I would not expect a new depth-rating on the Sub though. There wasn't one with the GMTIIc and I would think that Rolex would not want to take sales away from the Deepsea. I believe Rolex would like to keep each watch far apart in extremes to entice customers to buy both. Something in the middle would constitute a compromise and Rolex doesn't want that. |
