Don't sell it .
Being tight is wayyyy different than being short.
If your short, you can sell it .
But will the price of a Rolex really make a big dent in the budget??
And if it is still tight, you might not want to buy one later one.
So, hang on to it.

If you need the $ to get a down payment, sell the watch.

If not, take out some extra $ when you get the loan for the house. You'll get more bang for your $ with the extra cash you borrow and when times aren't so tight you can always pay down the loan a little each month against the principle in addition to your regular loan payment.

Just my $0.02.

To hell with the guilt. If money is genuinely NOT a problem, I say hang on to it!!

The guilt will pass, but with the current prices, will you really be able to afford another Sub again? Listen to your wife....she's right on the button!!

You've got one Rolex right? You probably won't recover your purchase price so you'll lose money on the deal. Once sold, you may not feel guilty about owing the watch anymore but there'll be "new" guilt for the money you have "lost". And ofcourse you'll be Rolex-less.
Keep the watch

I was in a similar situation a month or so ago. I had ordered the Rolex with no intention to buy a house until next summer... lo and behold, we ended up buying a house a week or two after I dropped the cash to pick up a new GMT master.

Had I known I was going to buy a house this year, I would've put the Rolex off and spent the $5k on the house...

I've been back and forth on selling in the last couple of months. On one hand, I could put the money to good use, but on the other hand, I don't really need the money and I'm afraid that if I sell the GMT that I may put off buying a replacement for a looooong time.

My opinion, if you don't NEED to sell it. Don't.

Plus you can always opt to sell it tomorrow, but you can rarely opt to buy it back tomorrow. Please keep it until you have no other choice.

I am glad you decided to keep it. It's always easier to sell than to buy.

We had our talks before Pete! We always came to the same conclusion... Hold it, Hold it, Hold it!!!!

BTW congrats to being a home owner. Now save some money for the "hidden costs" of owning a home

Congrats on the new home, but selling your watch and picking up one later down the road will just cause you to waste more money.

Unless you are desperate for it, I wouldn't sell the watch if I were you.

On many occasions, I have loan money to friends where they gave me something of value to hold on to (car, watch) until the money is repaid. Maybe if you really need they money, you can find someone in your friends or family circle that appreciate watches and have a few extra buck laying around to lend you the cash and get your watch back once its repaid.

Congrats on being a new mortgage owner Pete!

As Vernon says, the sound of cash being sucked from your account has only begun!

I guess the watch is all a matter of priorities. If it's important for you to keep the watch and sacrifice something else, then keep it. I would say if Erika is saying keep it, you are a lucky guy and should follow her advice!

Agreed. I think the guilt of what you'd lose would also kill you. Besides, new house... kiddies in the plans? Once they arrive, kiss any luxury purchases good-bye. LOLOL

Hmm, I would sell that Sub since its soo popular. You would not lose no more than 2-300 bucks if that much. Divide that $5000 and use for your financial priorities and purchase a much reasonable Rolex like a DJ, Oyster Perpetual, Oysterdate. Something Rolex but lower in price.Quality is always high. You will probably enjoy the other models and flip amongst them if you need to. Use $3000 on your financial obligations and use $1000-2000 for lower price Rolex.
