Panerai Grey Dealers~Would You Buy From?

Hey There,
Looking at a PAM 240 and am talking to retailers for availability, price etc...
What is the deal with grey dealers and are they trustworthy? Are the watches new, do they have a warrenty, are they refurbs, do they have paperwork, are they stolen and if not how do they get the watches and sell them below retail??

Obviously I don't know how the grey market works so I would really appreciate some info on it and maybe a trustworthy dealer or two that I can contact.

I buy from grey dealers or pre owned market 100% of the time. IMHO there's where the savings is at.

My advice is be prepared to do your due diligence and check references after references.

Good luck!

You can get LNIB and BNIB watches from a Grey Dealer. Moreover, you can of course get all the paperwork that would come with the piece as if it came new from an AD. No difference.

Where the watch comes from is dependent on who you buy from and what type of watch it is. They are sourced from different places.

Do your homework, but there are several great ones right here on this forum. Good luck!

Check out Mosco here. He's a stand-up guy that is well known on TRF. No worries with him.

Let me second this. Mosco (aka Greg)'s the best.

edge,
If the gray dealer is good, all warranties will be in effect with you. I bought mine from a grey dealer and saved money. Never had a problem. I would not buy from a AD unless they match the grey dealers market. And don't hold your breathe.\

Good luck

I have dealt with DavidSW many times and would recommend him 100%. Very responsive and can usually find what you're looking for.

Apart from the credibility of the grey marketer, I would just double check that they will provide you with the FULL SET of "documents", ie. the international warranty card. With that card (assuming its a real one) you basically have the same rights of ownership as someone who bought the watch directly from an AD. I have heard of some online grey marketers who do NOT provide this card, so in effect you get the REAL authentic watch, but you don't have the same warranty rights as someone who bought from an AD.

I think that warranty card is like the birth certificate for a watch and it gives you peace of mind over the long term that should something arise requiring repair or servicing you have full rights to it.

My TT Sub I got from a gray market dealer at a great deal. I almost went to the same gray market dealer for my Pam 240 after the first AD changed the discount from 15% to 12% in a weeks time.
So I decided to give the next AD a few towns over a try before going gray market and they offerd 20% off with cash or 18% off with credit card. I went with the AD because I thought it was a very good deal.

Good luck with your Pam purchase.
