Thinking of purchase of men's president, help?
I already have a sub blue dial with a YG/ss bracelet. I want a different watch and have looked at all gold daytona's and the president. If I got a president , I want a white face and diamond numerals. I am also considering the diamond bezel. If I got the daytona I would get a white face and solid gold.
I have got quotes from an AD with a 15% discount and I have talked to allan furman on new watches. I feel comfortable with Furman and on a watch like this the difference is 4k or more. My main question is how to spec out a president. I also want to make sure on the idea of not buying the daytona. In other words which watch is the better investment. Since I have a sport watch I'm leaning the president direction. |

As for your question, you're talking two different styles here. The Pressie is a dress watch while the Daytona is a sport watch. Granted you can dress up the Daytona (e.g. meteorite or MOP dials), but it's still more of a sport watch. I've got a YD DD with black dial and diamond markers. It is a great dress watch, but I will also wear it with jeans - very versatile IMO. I know you mentioned white dial, but don't ignore the black for elegance. But in the final analysis, you have to try them all on. The one that smiles most to you is the one to get. Keep us posted on the hunt and final capture.

I know I shouldn't say this but you should not want to purchase either a Prez or Daytona for investments. Of course, you would get almost all your money back if you were to sell. If you feel passionate about a Rolex, then I would choose the president because you want diamonds and such. The president stills sells $10K+ on the bay. I briefly owned a Prez with Pave' dial and diamond bezel. It was 18K yellow gold completely. I miss that watch but i had finiancial obligations. I probably shouldn't have spent the money, but passion made me.

Basically since I have a sub already with a gold and silver band I was wanting a all gold watch. I like both but I thought the pres. would be that much different.

The Day-Date and the Daytona are so different.
The Day-Date on the one hand has the day and date features with a 36mm size case. The Daytona on the other hand is a 40mm case without any date feature. I would not buy either as an investment. The Daytona does sell for a premium over retail price, but the Day-Date is ordinarily discounted by AD's. I would suggest that you go and try each watch on for yourself. My personal selection would be the 18K YG Daytona with the black dial and gold sub-dials, red chronometer hand and red minute track on an oyster bracelet. Very nice :) |

I will agree with most here. I have a couple of prezzies and I LOVE them. But it is just a matter of taste. I would also suggest to go to any AD and TRY THEM; one of them will 'speak to you'....that's the one!

NEITHER (DD or Daytona) is a good 'investment' IMO, but considering you already have TT Sub, perhaps DD is better choice than Daytona. I love DDs. Pictured above are some DDs that went through my hands over last few years. I still have the last two and most likely will for many years to come ;-) |

The platinum looks great in the picture. Is it a watch that is much sought after by the rolex market?

Furman
He is not an authorized Rolex dealer or service center, True he advertises some low numbers. He purchases his watches from outside vendors. NOT from Rolex. Some of his models may be outdated, and his inventory may be lacking the watch you want. Rolex does not allow advertising or publizised pricing. He cant service Rolex watches..... This from 3 Rolex dealers in the Detroit area.

Back in the Mid 90s I ran across a site that had DD with the most exotic diamond designs. Some of the DDs had different color diamonds pave' on the dial and case lugs. Some had mosaic completely covered in diamonds. Has anyone heard of these limited editions? Did anyone else see the site or discover it in the mid 90s?

Thanks, Dennis.
That's your former beauty that got away for me. Timing was bad. Oh well, I'm sure another opportunity will present itself one day.

I'd so love a bark finish DD with champagne baton dial.
I would lose my house in the ensuing divorce if I bought one though. |

Matches mine: I am now putting funds aside to get a bark DD - it may take awhile, but I am determined to do it!
