Your Favourite 80's Arcade Game

Okay, going to college in the early to mid-80's, other than Thursday night's at the campus pub where they had great bands (The Spoons, Platinum Blonde, Honeymoon Suite, etc. ), the place I spent the most time in was the "games room" in the student centre. Between snooker tournaments and the arcade games, let's just say I spent more time there than doing my physics homework.

They had some of the classic arcade machines, but one in particular stood out as my favourite, and for a short period of time (very short) I had the high score on this machine. The game was known as Tempest, and it was somewhat of an addiction.......sort of like watches now.

I somehow got thinking of this game yesterday, but could not for the life of me recall the name (getting old, eh?). So after doing some searches came across the name and said "Of course!"

Well for me got to be Pac Man,Donkey Kong,Galaga,and Asteroids liked Tron and tempest, but there is only one Pac-Man.Remember playing them with my sons great fun ,and in some ways more entertaining than the modern video games.

About 10 years ago, it was Daytona USA.

I recently picked up a cartridge for my handheld game, that has about 50 of these 80'2 & 90's games on them

From '85 to '91 I spent many hours and £££ playing the Sega hits. Space Harrier, Afterburner, Super Monaco GP, Sega Rally, Power Drift and the daddy Outrun.

And even though I'm really too old for this s**t now, I kicked the ass of a few kids at Outrun II down the local bowling alley recently. Old habits die hard.

I am 28 and I still sometimes visit arcades to test my reflexes.
I tired that newer initial D game, not really my cup of tea. I still play the daytona USA 2 sometimes, that force feedback steering wheel is what makes it fun.

I also saw a computer racing sim that includes the macau guia grand prix track, going to buy that game later.

But I did grow up in my Dad's Poolhall/Billiards. We had about 20 Arcades that went into a rotation every few months give or take it's popularity.

He had it for over 35 years, so I probably played (for free of courSe) every arcade game/Pinball that came into Toronto.

Very hard to pick an Alltime Favourite. Besides the Classics, Tron, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Space Invaders -

I really liked, JOUST - its actually the hardest game to find right now.
Also Jungle Hunt was great.

Cool topic..brings back many many memories...My dad retired just last year.
Now I have to pay for video games and Pool tables

Can't recall the name, but it was a space game with a ship that only circled around, shooting towards the center. It's the game in the Rush Subdivisions video.

In the 90s I worked in the ski industry and there was a ski game where you stood on 'skis' and raced down the hill. I pumped enough loonies into that to buy a single machine, I'm sure.

But it paid off. At the Toronto Ski Show, on the media day there was a competition on this machine. Needless to say, I not only won, but won by a massive margin... beating the likes of Nancy Greene, Steve Podborski, Todd Brooker and a few guys from the then current CAST.

What handheld game do you play? I bought a PSP.

The arcade games are on the Nintendo DS, and I have the PSP also.
Now I am into racing games.

Actually John, that game is the one I refer to - Tempest. From the Wiki page in my post:

"The game makes a cameo at the end of Rush's video for the song Subdivisions."

i remember once my mum sent me to the shop... i spent £20 on streetfighter and told her i had been robbed

After spending enough money on the arcade, I saw a business opportunity and bought the arcade board, system and 2 joysticks and charged my classmates (I was in junior high) to play unlimited games at my home. I got the money back for the system in about 6 months and sold it to another kid for what I got it for later on. I made like 800 bucks, it was a bootleg board that we bought in HK, if I remember correctly, it cost me about 800 bucks US for it.
