Differences between old & new Datejust w/ an extra 1 before model #?

Does anyone know what exactly are the difference between the new and the old Datejust (e.g. 116234 vs. 16234)?

I noticed they have thicker stick markers on the dial and I've read that the bracelet is improved. It's about a 30% price difference for a used newer revision vs. older revision with essentially the same look, same age, similar condition. Are there any other major differences that would warrant getting the newer revision over the older one?

Both use the cal. 3135, and both retain the 36mm case diameter. The big changes come with the bracelet - both the Oyster and Jubilee bracelets use solid centre links, and vastly improved clasps. The Oyster uses a far more solid clasp than the old "tuna can" clasps, and has the Easylink - a half link you can release quickly without having to adjust anything, just flip it out and away you go. The Jubilee has a concealed clasp, which allows for a more continuous look, and with the benefits of the solid centre links, won't suffer the same problems with stretch as older Jubilee bracelets.

You'll also notice that the centre links on the Oyster bracelet are now polished, giving the steel models the "feel" of a two-tone model, as well as making it appear a little dressier. Some people aren't fans of this, but I think it helps to make the watch feel more like a premium watch.

Finally, the case lugs are a little thicker, as well as polished, again contributing to the dressier look. Whilst there are a few cosmetic changes, the biggest change is in how the newer model feels - far more sturdy, a little more substantial, and no more rattles! I recommend trying the old and new models on, just so you can feel the difference

Hope this helps

Chris
