My New Rolex 116200 "M" series Datejust

Hi to All,

This is my 1st post with some photos of my New Datejust. I got it for my 65th BD. I have a question or two....

1. It ran 15 sec fast yesterday & 13 sec fast today. Is there a "break-in-period??? or should I take it back & have it regulated. I keep it in my Orbita watch-winder next to my Breitling Navitimer & Omega Seamaster, both of which are almost dead on. Are Rolex watches positional, do they run better in face up/down/sideways??? The new Rolex has full coverage purchased from Tourneau 1/15/10...

2. If anyone is familiar with Orbita, I have it set to 650 both directions as per the Orbita Website. Is this correct??

Thanks,

Rich

Either way, that is way too fast. I would suggest sending it in for proper regulation by Rolex.

Great looking watch..

Your Orbita is set just right..

As to the accuracy... it should do better than that... It will only likely change by a couple of seconds either way after a month or so, so if you have been accurate with your tests...it may need to be regulated..

Wind it fully and check it at the beginning of a week, then again at the end, dividing by the days to get a better daily average.... let your Watchmaker know that information...

Hi Rich,

Congrats on that beautiful acquisition and a hearty welcome to TRF.

Those gains are way too fast for a new watch. You might want to give that winder a miss for a few days and just place the watch on your dresser for a few days and see how it goes.

Personally, I don't like winders - pain in the butt if you ask me!! Even with 4 watches in my collection, I'm very comfortable WITHOUT a winder.

Let us know how it goes without the winder.

Thanks & good luck - JJ

Congrats on the DJ! I'd also recommend giving it some time to 'settle'. If it's still running this fast after 4-6 weeks or so, it should be regulated.

Welcome to TRF Rich! Beautiful DJ, wear it for several days and chart the time change over that period of time and see if it evens out any. If not, take it back for regulation.

I left it off the winder face down last night & only lost 13 sec as opposed to 15 in the winder

Well, then just take it back and have it regulated under warranty. Shouldn't take too long!!

Good luck - JJ

Yea, when I saw that dial, it was SO different, that was the selling point. Hopefully it settles down, hate to send it in for repair after ONLY 3 days, but for the $...it should run better.

I forgot to say in my previous post, that I fully agree with the other posts: Your watch is running way to fast. The movement in your DJ is capable of much more precision than that. I've got the exact same model and mine is running at +1.7 seconds per day. Even though it is hard to give it back to the AD, you will regret it if you don't.

Lars,

Took it back this morning. Tourneau will be sending another one from another store. I explained the timing issue & they totally agreed, its running WAY too fast. Should have the other one before the end of the week. I asked them to test it first BEFORE they call me to pick it up. I expalined it should be at least +/- 1-3 sec/day.

Rich, that sounds like the right decision. Hopefully they can find you one that runs as close to 0 as possible. Hopefully you don't have to wait that long for the new one to arrive. I had a similar issue with my very first 14060M where I discovered a tiny scratch in the crystal a day after I bought it (brand new). I handed it back and went through two very difficult weeks without my brand new watch - do you miss your DJ already?
