watch winders and magnetism

I received this information by email from a luxury watch dealer in Ohio. Is anyone aware of these issues with Rolex watches?
<<We are seeing a fairly large increase of watches coming in with magnetism issues. This can be caused by a number of different factors, but the most common is from winding boxes. Most winding boxes on the market today are shielded to prevent against the magnet field generated by the electric motors. However, there are a great number of “inferior” boxes being made which are price driven and not quality driven. If your winder does in fact magnetize your timepiece, it can be a very costly repair and often isn’t covered by the warranty.
Also, there are a fair amount of timepieces being made today that should not go on a winder. Please check with you AD to make sure your timepiece will not be damaged by using a winder. Many times this information can be found in your manual.>>

I have a Orbita winder for 12 years and no issues but my next winder will be this one. The nicest one I have ever found for the money. Totally programmable in 50 RPD increments!

I would totally disagree with what the AD have said. I have used a Rapport watch winder for 6 years now and have had 5 different watches used on it not one had been magnetised. I change the motor on mine as it saves postage and hassle of sending it back. Where the motor sits is a piece of metal which is aluminum and I doubt this would shield any magnetic field generated by the motor. Couple the fact where the spindle of the motor connects to the cradle where the watch sits this is a fair size hole where no metal to provide shielding.

I would say the magnetic field generated would be comparable to background magnetic field from earth. Can anytime comment if they know?

While I'm not convinced that the winder itself would cause magnetism, I'm pretty sure that if you put your winder near a phone or speaker then theoretically you could be re-aligning the magnetic field on your watch with each rotation. If the magnet was mild (like the speaker of your mobile/cell phone) then this could take weeks or months. Anyone else think this could happen?

Switched from a 3 head Orbita to Wolf 4.0's. No worry's mate!!

And the fix isn't costly at all and I've never had a cheaper winder magnetize a watch.

is it safe going through airport metal detectors with your watch? i heard they could have magnetic problems as well..
