Just picked up an LV and I'm thinking of doing a modification....

I'm very excited about my new purchase and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival on Saturday. I wanted to get some opinions about what I want to do when it arrives. I didn't do a search before posting this (and probably should have) but I'm sure it has been brought up before. An LV will be on my wrist Saturday and as much as I love green (like my GV), I'm thinking of switching the bezel to a black one. The main reason I am so drawn towards the Kermit is the maxi-dial. I just love all the "big, bright circles"! It very much reminds me of the vintage maxi T-dials of yesterday and a green bezel just doesn't take me there. A black bezel mod is where I want to go. What do you all think? Oh, and of course the original green bezel will be kept under lock and key--I'm no dummy. Opinions, good or bad, greatly appreciated.

Dan, IMHO, that is the best combo...Maxi dial and the Black insert! I'm all for it!

Still enjoying the case too!

Hi Dan, lots of guys here do the very same thing. I'm planning on getting an LV in the near future and will be making the same mod to it. I also plan to lose the cyclops. I figure I'll just put a drop of finger nail polish remover on it each night (drying and wearing the next day) until it releases. Post pix man!!

Glad you are enjoying the case. Thanks again for the kudos. I'm going to go out on a limb here-- I'm also thinking about removing the cyclops. I'm not a big fan of the cyclops. I was very seriously contemplating a Sea Dweller but I don't like the smaller dial and small markers. Am I pushing it?

Thanks Jonathan. You must have posted while I was typing my next mod thought. You answered my question before I could ask. I'm curious to see what others think about 86'ing the cyclops.

Nah, that was a trend on timezone a few years back. You may even want to do a search there, I think there was actually a tutorial on how to remove it! From what I remember, it was sharp chisel positioned at the edge of the cyclops, and a light whack from a hammer removed it! Scary eh!
FWIW, the SD is only 1mm smaller than the Sub dial...but the maxi dial is a nice bonus on the LV. Send me a PM if you need to get an insert.

Those are definitely two things I would do to an LV. I am all for it.

Wouldn't you consider that kind of a Frankenwatch?? LV's are different for a reason, Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but I think it would make it look like a knock off. Am I wrong??

Sounds as if I'm in the minority, but I have an LV and would never swap out the bezel insert to black, although I thought about it when I first got it. I love the green. It's unique. With the black bezel, the watch blends in with all the regular Sub dates, maxi dial notwithstanding. And I'm a firm believer in originality and keeping the watch the way Rolex designed it. Stay green! (Of course, swapping inserts is part of the fun, and to each their own.)

Has anyone replaced a ceramic bezel insert on their own? Knowing how hard you have to push to replace the aluminum insert, I could imagine the ceramic breaking if uneven pressure was applied.

No - I bought one from Steve on the FS boards. He was selling a bunch of inserts a few days / weeks ago.
I did the installation myself which was very very easy:

http://rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=91925

I will say - after a few days with the black insert on, I do miss the green. It was a nice bit of color.

I feel like I'm wearing a DSSD now without the ring - because of the maxi-dial and fat hands. I'll give it a few more days and maybe switch back.

I ordered my 16610LV from DavidSW and a black insert from Steve Mulholland both here on TRF and couldn't be happier. The maxi-dial and black insert looks incredible. The green looks amazing too, best of both worlds.

Sounds like a great plan, Dan You can always revert back to original and the extra black bezel adds some value to the Kermit if you ever decide to sell the package.

If Rolex will service a watch with that modification, knowing how strict they are with their policies, then I wouldn't consider it a Frankenwatch. Just my Opinion though
