What's with the "extra" hole on the back of this Sub dial?
It certainly appears to be authentic - but what purpose does the hole near the 8 index serve?
Look at the picture of the back...I've seen these before and Sub Chrono?

Does the movement need the extra room for a little post or something. That's my thought.

So, some part of the 3135 sticks up and needs this space? Or does some part fit into that to keep it more secure? (or both?)

Okay, I've taken it apart now...which one?
(and should I have all these extra little bits? Naw...they're not important...)

Often the 'blind' hole is to allow extra room for the shock protection device fitted to the bottom or main plate. Tylden.

Nice picture Leo. Was Darwin who said that if you throw things up in the air often enough, in the end they will fall in place and make something worth having? Don't try this at home. Tylden.

Just a guess, but it may be used in the manufacturing process to hold or move the part while being made. My father-in-law was a master machinist (88 years old now) who mentioned how if you see something on a machined part that seems to have no purpose, it may well have been there to facilitate the manufacturing process.

The two pins are for alignment. The start of that hole in question was errant, since the post for the hands would not be fitted so far off center.
Fill the hole in with plaster, or forget about it! |

The extra "hole" is for a gear to the datewheel at cal 3035. So you can use that dial on both cal 3035 and 3135.
The newer dials have no extra hole and those can't be put in a cal 3035. From the start of cal 3135 so was the extra hole still at the dials but after some time later Rolex stop doing it.
