Hi,

Can anyone help me identify this Rolex which my dad purchased in Hong Kong in the 1950's. Which model is this as I can't find any reference pictures for this type.

It requires manual winding.

My Dad had a "watch repairman" clear/adjust the watch 20 years ago, but in doing so the repairman erased the wording that says "Oyster" and whatever word was printed on the bottom half of the watch.

Is it worth having the watch repaired and cleaned up? It still runs, its just that the wording is not there anymore.

Its amazing what a good watchmaker can do. My dad gave me my grandfathers Hamilton watch that was given to him back in 1960(the year I was born) from Western Union for 50 years of service. Its a 10k gold watch. Back then I guess it was considered to be a real nice retirement gift. Anyway my watchmaker regulated it & buffed out a few minor scratches on the crystal & it looks beautiful.

Additional informagtion:

At the bracelet 12 o'clock position, there is the number 6422 (I'm assuming this is the model number).

At the 6 o'clock position, I cannot make out the serial number as the bracelet has scratched enough of the case to not make it readable there.

I think I have identified it.

It's a "Rolex Oyster Precision" Model 6422, from around 1958.

The dial is missing the words Oyster and Precision because it was "cleaned" away.

could be a rolex oyster royal case number 6144,early 50's or 6426,6422,the dial looks early 50's.
