Recommendations which Rolex
Right just new to this forum,
I am looking for some recommendations as to what rolex to purchase, I have only really looked at the s/s yachtmaster and really liked it and was thinking about getting one, but looking on this forum most people are talking about gmt 2 and other similar watches. Looking at the y/master, i thought it will look good casual or dressy. Not sure about the differences in watches or whats best. The only thing i can tell is the price difference Anyone help or recommend through there experience so when i go to buy one i will have a better idea as to what to look for. Looking for a s/s watch that i will wear most day's that is hard wearing. Thanks. |

Buy what you like, not what others like. If they turn out to be the same, then ok. Go to a dealer and try on anything that you like looking at.

Agree--I would go to a dealer and try on a bunch of them and get a feel for the different styles and watches Rolex makes--that is best starting point! Welcome to TRF and best of luck!

Here is what I would suggest. Spend some time on www.rolex.com and look at the wide collection they have. One you have shortlisted few go to your nearest Authorized dealer and try few on. This will get you very close to liking a price range. Then come back to the forum and let us know your parameters and we can suggest something...In the end its your decision but this will give some confidence with your purchase

Get a classic stainless DJ, maybe a 16030 or a 16220 or a 16200. Timeless, dressy, casual, sporty..

Some considerations -
If you are looking at steel - do you want the middle of the bracelet to be glossy (which gets scratched) or brushed finish? The YM has polished center links - and - by the way, the bezel is platinum, not steel. For a rugged sport watch, the most iconic and versatile is the 16610 Black Sub Date. The SS GMT II 16710 is also all steel and has the added 2nd time zone feature - if you travel a lot it is handy. You can get 3 different bezels to spice it up - just be sure to keep the one it comes with for service. The Explorer II is sort of a GMT 'Lite' in that the bezel doesn't rotate. Lastly, the 16610LV (green bezel sub) has bigger white dots which provide longer lume at night and bigger hands which do the same thing. A lot of people buy a black bezel insert and swap out the green for a classic sub look. If it were me and I had 6K to choose, I'd go with the LV and second bezel. As for trying on - hop a flight to London...if you are already spending 6K, what's another $500 for a day trip to see 'em in person?
