$4,200 - GMT - Modern vs Vintage
Ok here is the opportunity...
You own and truly enjoy a primary rotation of: 16710 Z (3185) - wear it Mon > Thu to office 14060 A - wear Fri > Sun for fun Zenith Class Elite - wear it to church and formals (2 x per month) All GREAT watches - but since I got the 14060 A - the vintage feeling of the 14060 has hit home - the bracelet, the holes, not as perfect, and just a different feel than my newer Z serial. The Z 16710 full pkg values at $4000 - $4200 for an outright sale here. 2 QUESTIONS DO YOU KEEP THE 16710 Z???? OR SELL THE Z AND BUY A VINTAGE GMT - AND WHAT KIND OF A VINTAGE GMT DO YOU HUNT FOR IN THAT PRICE RANGE???? (remember to wear 4 days per week) Cheers! |

I currently have a 16710 with the 3186... Great watch, love it, really, but I really like the simplicity of the earlier GMT Masters- specifically the 16750 and the 16700.
You're probably saying- why the 16700? Well, it's a straight GMT Master, not a "II" though, (technically, my current watch is a "ll"); but rather- I like the vintage simplicity, and slightly lower profile of the 16700. Something to think about. |

If I were going to do that, I'd sell the 14060. If you get a vintage piece, you probably will need a daily wearer, which it appears your 16610 is. And I wouldn't go looking for a watch in a specified budget, either. Look at the market for various references, and hone in on what you want and can afford. The, go looking for a good deal on a well preserved piece.

My thoughts,
Given your rotation I would opt for a 16750 (matt dial would be my first choice). Reasoning--With it's quickset date feature allowing the watch to wind down on off days doesn't present the problems of winding through the dates on a regular basis (wear?) that a non-quickset 1675 might bring. You still maintain the lovely acryllic crystal, vintage look with the matt, and the fast beat movement shouldn't present servicing problems down the road. |

I agree with Mike that a 1675 GMT may not be the most practical watch to add to a rotation of watches if you wear it only few times each month.
The non-quickset date feature means that the crown will require MANY rotations to set the correct date as well as the GMT hand every time you wear it. If you want a vintage Rolex to wear a few times a month, consider a 5512/5513 Sub or the transitional GMTs 16750/16760. A matte dial 16750 with an acrylic crystal and a maxi dial without the white gold surrounds has a vintage look as well as a modern movement and, in my opinion, is the best of both worlds. I would like to know what you decide, Russ, so keep us posted |

Before buying the 16710, I was considering a stretch of the budget for a 1675/1670 because I preferred the flatter profile and wider bezel insert of the vintage watch. But considering the "wearability" of the watch (I really use the GMT function for work), I eventually went with the jump hour feature of the 16710.
I would go with Kevin's suggestion of trading your weekend watch for a vintage instead of the daily watch. Hope this helps.

Listen to Mike. I did and couldn't be happier with my 16750.

I don't think of any Rolex GMT after 1675 as vintage.
