New Arrival - A Journey Complete?

A journey complete?

I really don’t know, but certainly feels that way. Been through lots and lots of watches, many high-end and relatively expensive pieces from some of the best out there. Omega, Breitling, Sinn, Rolex and of course Seiko (JDM).

But against my better judgement it has always been Rolex that has kept me hooked for more.

Ever since my foray into the brand back in 2008 starting with a Sea-Dweller, I was pretty much drunk on kool-aid. Call it shallow, but there was a certain mystique about owning the watch. Though for a short period of time I thought that was it for me, but when the price of your watch is more than twice of your car, then something is wrong.

I sold her and boy was that a mistake I still regret.

Fast forward a few months, I try the Submariner 14060. No date meant a clean dial, and that is something I love and it was quintessentially Rolex.

Go through a few more watches in between before moving onto a Rolex Explorer. What a classy piece indeed and have many a happy memory with the watch. But I just felt it was too small for me.

Traded it for a 14060 again, and I was most pleased. Took only that watch into Scotland during the recent winter and put it through some crap; digging the car out of snow and photography trips. The watch just looked right with outdoor attire and on smart evening dinners. I couldn’t help but feel a certain feeling of joy, and would end up staring at the watch sometimes. (You too are guilty of this, I know you are)

When some of us are so passionate about watches, I have found there to be two routes you can take, One what your brain is telling you is the most sensible option, and two, what your heart is telling you.

Well I chose with my heart. I have done the brain thing, and I haven't settled on anything.

So…..a few months down the line the chance to buy another 14060 comes up. I think hey, this could be it. I can be content. I can spend the money on a more interesting and exclusive piece. But with my conservative taste, there wasn’t much floating my boat.

So here she is gents:

The watches are from 2004 and 2007 – two years for which I am very fond of, 2004 when I started my first serious job seeing myself through university, 2007 when I began my career and finished university. And this week when I am out of my two years probation with flying colours. Needless to say the watches mean something to me.

A final shot for your enjoyment:

Will I return to watch hunting, probably, but right now I am happy to have these two by my side. :D

I can relate to many of the things you wrote, but I could have never stated it so eloquently. Thank you for sharing it.

It amazes me that 99.9 percent of the people on this site are into the "sport" type Rolex's. Like the Subs, Deep Sea, etc. I notice almost NO love for other watches, like, for example, the Datejust. I don't get it -- Yet. But hey, I've only been around a month or 2....
