Rolex robbery

http://www.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/MI147718/

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (WSVN) -- Three crooks are still on the run after committing a high-priced heist.

According to Coral Gables Police, the thieves walked into the Mayors jewelry store in the Village of Merrick Park, located at 358 San Lorenzo Avenue, Saturday afternoon. One of the robbers was in a wheelchair.

A security guard buzzed the three men into the Mayors. Coral Gables Police Officer Kelly Denham described the events that led up to the robbery. "When they were inside the store, they immediately pepper-sprayed the security guard, rendering him disabled," she explained. "They moved over to the Rolex case, removed approximately 20 to 25 Rolexes."

The jewelry store has been robbed two other times, in 2003 and 2009. Joe Pacheco, a shopper, said, "I'm just shocked that this keeps happening."

Coral Gables Police said although three men walked into the store, there were a total of four men who got into a white sport utility vehicle and fled the scene. The SUV headed northbound on LeJeune Road.

If you have any information on this crime, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.

I'm sure the wheelchair was just a ruse to get buzzed in to the store. The bad guy would have jumped out once the robbery was underway.

Will the serial numbers of the stolen watches get posted someplace? That would be helpful.

If this store had been robbed before, wouldn't/ shouldn't there be some kind of enhanced security?

You'd think that they'd move to a euro-style where everything is in the safe...

It's a pretty affluent mall. High-end shops like Burberry etc. This wasn't a couple of kids taking a chance, this was a professional robbery.

Thats nothing man, a sales manager made off with all the watches in the outlet and fled to Thailand. This guy makes like this robbery like stealing from a candy store...

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stori...416783/1/.html

SINGAPORE : Former Cortina Watch employee Jerry Ee, who allegedly stole 386 luxury watches last December, was charged in court on Saturday.

After being on the run for 80 days, the long arm of the law finally caught up with Jerry Ee.

The 35-year-old was brought back to Singapore from Bangkok on Thursday night.

Jerry Ee appeared in court in the same clothes he wore when he surrendered at the Singapore embassy in Bangkok four days ago.

He was charged with one count of criminal breach of trust.

Jerry Ee allegedly took 386 timepieces worth over S$8 million and S$27,137 in cash from Cortina's Raffles City outlet on Christmas Day last year.

He turned himself in at the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok on Tuesday, after being on the run for nearly three months.

He was calm and composed as the charge was read out to him.

He is being remanded for further investigations and his case will be mentioned again on March 27.

Jerry Ee spoke briefly to his lawyer on Saturday morning. His lawyer said he has advised his client to fully cooperate with the police investigations. He said his client has assured him that he will do so.

So far, only 230 of the stolen watches have been recovered.

Police investigations are underway to track down the missing 156 watches.

If convicted, Jerry Ee could be jailed for up to 15 years and fined.

Cortina Watch has also filed a civil suit against Jerry Ee. - CNA/ir/ms

It's happening every where. Around my way a store was robbed by two suspects, who waited for the owner to leave out the rear door at closing, then rushed him at gun point, held several employees & made the owner empty the safe, according to the news. They sell high end jewelery & Rolexes. Now clue on total lost but their Ins Co. is offering a $50k reward for suspects. I wish I knew cuz I could use $50k

This reminds me of the robbery that occurred in the diamond district of Manhattan. Where two assailants dressed up as Hasidic Jews so that they would be buzzed into the office. Then robbed the proprietor of his wares. But later the police realized it was an inside job, so that the proprietor could write off the stolen goods against his insurance policy, to which he was then taken into custody and charged.
