Is it wrong for me to want a DSSD??

Man... I've had a chance to trade my 312 for a DSSD and I chickened out. I've also had a chance to buy the DSSD but bought the GV instead, again I chickened out.

Now, I have my sights on a SS Daytona black - but I'm thinking a DSSD for approx $7K (I'm going to see if my AD can do this or from TRF) would be better to hold me over for some time.

I know it's chunky. I know it's big. I don't have the big wrists that some of you guys have here. I'm only 6.75" but I can pull off a 44mm Panerai 312, and I think I can pull off the DSSD as well.

Can you guys convince me further or dissuade me?

I already have a Sub - and they look sorta similar.

Do you guys have pics to show the DSSD in all its glory? Preferably those of you with Subs/GMTIIC can show off your DSSD in all-inclusive pics as well?

I believe you need to own the DSSD to really decide if you like it. I'm wearing mine right now but, as of late, I find myself grabbing the GMT IIc or Tiger Tudor when I leave the house.

I think the DSSD is fantastic, but I must admit, I do bang it a lot more than my other watches and have found it is not the best while at work. That said, though, I do plan on keeping it forever.

Also, my wrist is 8.25".

I love my DSSD, I truly do. However, the thickness of the watch has been bothering me lately to the point that I'm seriously considering "down-sizing" to either a 16600 Sea Dweller or a 16610 Sub. Don't get me wrong, the DSSD is a fantastic watch, but it's massive thickness is not for the faint of heart.

I'm glad you got the GV instead.

I've noticed it's love it or leave it for the DSSD for most folks. I personally would rather hold off the purchase for a Daytona.

Not at all....I want a DSSD as well but I have other's on priority first!!!
Maybe you should go to an AD and try it on to see if it fits and sings to you first!! Just IMO

I did go to my AD and I tried it on. It looks pretty good on the wrist but it's tough to judge a watch of this size without really getting the bracelet sized....

Perhaps I should have my AD size the bracelet first...

I have both a DSSD and a 312. They are very different watches and I love them both. The 312 wears bigger but less thick. The DSSD took getting used to, but I love it!

I think the best deals on a DS (or GMTiic) will be at the time "Ceramic Sub Seduction" is sweeping the Planet....in a few months time!!!!

However there does seem to some great deals already if you look around!!

I think 40mm is the perfect size for anyone, in my opinion the DSSD is TOO BIG.

The Deep Sea is a great watch for fans of bigger sized watches.

Just like the DateJust II is a version for those guys who like a bigger dressy watch.

I am a huge fan of the Deep Sea.

Get it...you won't regret it.

I say get one. I can't afford one now but plan to buy one next two years if finances work out. I have tried the DEEP SEA on at many Rolex Jewelers and am impressed. The finest Rolex makes right now in my opinion. I say you won't regret it if you purchase the watch.

It is an absolutely exceptional watch. The size seems big at first, but honestly after a day or two, it's no longer an issue and candidly a very comfortable watch. I have a TT Sub and the DSSD; both share wrist time but honestly the DSSD gets the majority of the wear time. It's an exceptional watch - you won't regret it.

I'm on two months now with a daily wear DSSD, and it's the finest watch I've owned. It's thick, but to me it's reassuring and weighty. Live with one for a while and see whether it's for you. If it's not, I'll take it! Just kidding :-) Happily.

...I just can't pull it off. I currently own a pam 116 and a pam 328 (a 312 with a bracelet--I know you know but others may not) and wear them very comfortably. I even had a Omega PO 45mm on bracelet and it was still more do-able than the DSSD. The thickness just killed me! I really, really wanted it to work :(

You absolutely need to try one on before you purchase.

I need to try the DSSD again and really be sure about it.

The one thing I don't know about the DSSD is that it costs more than the GMTIIC and may be "not" as comfortable on a daily basis.

That's the big reason why I'm hesitant to pull the trigger... if I had no budget, I'd get them all!!!

I bought a DSSD a couple of weeks ago and sized it last weekend. Yes it is bigger and heavier than a Sub but the Glidelock makes accurate adjustment very easy. A good way to get a more accurate feel of the watch in the shop is to pad out the bracelet by trapping a folded handkerchief between the clasp and your skin. It is not as good as the correct adjustment but it gives you a better idea than it flopping around. After wearing it for a little while you get used to it and then if you look at a Sub it almost seems too thin in comparison!

Go for the DSSD without hesitation.. I agree with you as an owner of a Sub 16610 that they have some similarities but believe me when you wear the DSSD you will have a totaly different feeling.. Just think about the technology of building this BEAST ! The thick crystal (No Cyclops), compressible ring, blue lume, titanuim case back, 22mm bracelet that has one of the best clasp ever made by a watchmaker..

Seriously though, if you're considering it, pull the trigger on one-DavidSW will give you a really nice price if you're considering buying from a TRF member.

And as far as comfort goes, it may seem like it wouldn't be, but it's the most comfortable rolex I've ever worn. If you can handle your pam, I think you'll fall in love with the deepsea.

Get the sdds, it's a watch that really stand out from the other siblings. You can spot someone wearing a deepsea miles away, might have to intrude other's personal space to check if they are wearing a gmt, sd or sub. I love my deepsea!!! yeah baby!

If I was to pay US$7,500 for a watch, it really has to sing to me. In other words, I'd have to look at the watch, try it on and my reaction must be a convincing "YES! YES!'' instead of "Er...maybe, let me think about it''.

I luv my DEEp sea , it goes well with woteva u wear, from a casual t-shirt to a formal suit. bought mine brand new two weeks ago, um... the only downside is that it is quiet easy to bump into sumthin, apart from that this is a great watch.
as to the thickness of the watch which a lot of WIS on trf dislike lol, it is actually quite comfy to wear, and sits nicely on the wrist.

and the best part of the watch is the lume , it's blue and it's bright, and when i mean bright i mean really bright lol i just luv the lume , it's so unique .

oh btw i have 6.5'' wrist , so i dun think it would be a problem for u.

i have my eye on the 312, thinking of getting it. any recommendation for me ? thx ..

I've always been into BIG watches & I've had a handful of Omegas and Breitlings. The DSSD was my first Rolex, I have always wanted a Rolex Sub but they always looked and felt way to small & reminded me of a woman's watch on me!

Just for info though my wrist is 8" + I've always had Big watches!!

You really need to try one on just to see how you feel, might feel to big for you, but then again you might feel the love!
