So, I know most Rolex lovers hate the idea of messing with Rolexs' original designs and adding things after-market.

It seems however there is a market for these "blacked-out" rolex's done after-market.

I'm trying to gather some thoughts on the subject.

There was an article in the fashion magazine "Details" about a company that added PVD to certain Rolex's and only released a few of them.

I ask a friend of mine who runs www.hodinkee.com and is very knowledgeable on the watch industry and he suggested this website http://www.projectxdesigns.com/ for getting the black rolexs.

I personally am not interested in something like this, even though I do enjoy the look of the black on the rolex. With my appreciation of timepieces I don't like messing with them outside of the factory they are produced in. I am also terrified of the depreciation or re-sale value of something like this.

All that being said, just trying to gather some thoughts from the PROS

I would do it.. but only for fun.. and as long as I own and maintain the same original piece..
So to have a "Blacked" Daytona Black Dial.. I would need to have an untouched one at home.

This is pretty sensible IMHO. I wouldn't own a PVD Rolex as my only Rolex. However, since I own duplicates..........I really do love my PVD SeaDweller. It is pretty unique.

Jason....I like your black sub. A lot

It's one of my favorite subs that gets posted on the various Rolex fora. It looks like a factory job. Like Rolex did it.
Post a pic! Ay my age & with how many ex-wives I've had...I'd rather look at a pretty watch....watches get me in much less trouble.

I am not a fan of aftermarket blacked out bezels or cases or bracelets, nor those sapphire case backs, nor aftermarket parts of any type. To me, that's like messing with an all factory original numbers matching vintage muscle car. Also, any type of aftermarket parts or special finish can do nothing but negatively affect the value of a Rolex IMO.

Thats my "beef" with it also. Yes, it may look good but it simply just negatively effects the value of the watch.

lol i was just commenting in another thread that i would like to change the red gmt marker on my Ex II to the green of the GMT IIc as i hate red, can this be done?

The only ones that I find easy on the eyes are the blacked out Millgaus and GMT IIC.....but I didnt say that I'd buy one.
