Dssd and submariner
Does it make sense for me to buy a submariner if I already own a DSSD, or do they differ enough to own both.

This is a question I've battled with many times over. This goes with the Sub and GMTIIC for me...
... and it's so hard for me to pull the trigger on either the DSSD or the GMTIIC because I own the Sub. I'd rather put the money on a totally different watch. If budget was infinite, then I would not have a problem buying a DSSD/GMTIIC regardless if I already owned the Sub.

This is the wrong question to be asking here on this forum. Do you honestly think that a bunch of watch addicts are going to tell you NOT to buy another watch??

I looked at this from a different angle. All of my watches are classic Sub/SD or GMT watches. I was looking for something to crown the current collection and I toyed between the new ceramic SS Sub or the DSSD. The Sub would have been "just another Sub" although there are obvious differences, whereas the DSSD really stood out (In many ways than one!)
If the Sub you are considering is the classic 16610 then there is enough difference, other than that a GMT II c or GMT II Pepsi/Coke. Peter |

I would get the sub LV - I have this and a DSSD and they feel like very different watches...I would not want the classic ss sub with a DSSD also...
good luck!

I've been struggling with this very question recently. In my eyes the DSSD and 16610 are different enough to own both. The DSSD is a very large and thick watch while the 16610 is much more traditional in size and thickness. Personally, I'm a stainless and black kind of guy so in the end I know I'm getting a 16610 also.

Which sub do you mean? The older style or soon to be released model?
The new ceramic is similar in design and look...maxi dial, big case, ceramic bezel... The older sub would be a cool addition. It's different enough from the DSSD

I choose DSSD and GMT IIc, even I know there will be a ceramic sub out there in the near future.
GMT IIc is way too different from a C sub or DSSD, however, a C sub is some how same as a GMT IIc due to the dial, the ceramic bezel (even with different engraving) and the case.... just my 2 cents....

I could see a no-date Sub or an older lug-hole Sub to go along with the Deepsea, but my first look would be to diversify with a travel watch like an Explorer II.

The DSSD is huge. The Submariner is not. Frankly, I would not hesitate to own both. In fact, I would prefer the Sub for its relative comfort.
Good luck on your decision. |

I have the LV and SDDS. Very different watches that look similar.

I bought a 16600 while owning a 16610!
They really do look alike at first glance, but the dial is actually smaller with the SD. The bezel is appreciably thicker too. The watch also wears taller than the more comfortable, IMO, Sub. Eventually, I gave in and traded my Sub for an LV. They do look too much alike. I don't know how Jason (jclevoy) does it.
