When was the caliber 3000 introduced in the 14060?

I think I have my numbers right, but just to double check the 3000 was the movement that was replaced by the 3130 correct? If I can recall both movements run at 28,800 bph and the only real difference is a improved mainspring in the 3130 and the subsequent COSC certification (please correct me if I'm wrong). So onto the question, when was the 3000 introduced in the 14060?

Around beginning 1990 the Cal 3000 was first introduced into the 14060 and in the 14060M Cal 3130 but its nothing to do with the mainspring.Its the balance wheel bridge and hairspring escapement. Now the 3130 is basically a cal 3135 without the date compliction.And the same cal 3000 was used in the Explorer now that was COSC tested, while the same movement in the non date sub was not.

In reallity Tyler not a lot of difference between them both fine movements.The cal 3000 has a good track record its the same as used in the Explorer.If I was going to buy one I would try and get a older one with the Tritium dial pre 1997/8. IMHO that model dial will be more collectable in future but no matter what you choose you cannot go wrong with either.

It is alleged that the 3130 has better shock resistance than the 3000.

The 14060 was "born" with the 3000 movement.. All of them will have this movement.. so ~1989 through 1998 when the 14060M came out..

This caliber was the last of the Rolex mainstream movements to use a balance cock and flat hairspring and had 27 jewels..

It was Modified to get a full balance bridge and larger balance wheel fitted with a Breguet overcoil hairspring.. (and other minor improvements) Jewel count was increased to 31. - the Caliber number was changed to the current 3130. This simple modification of the movement is what got the 14060 it's M... M, for Modified; other than that the 14060 and 14060M are identical, although all 14060's should be tritium and most 14060M's will be luminova.

Thanks Larry! You certainly cleared up all of my questions. Any idea on what one would expect to pay on anything from an E to a P serial 14060 or 14060m? The COSC certification isn't a big deal, and quite frankly I like the cleaner dial without the printing. I must say, the more inexpensive the better.

There are quite a few people who like the 2 line 14060 for exactly that reason. Either way its a great watch.

If I'm not wrong so is the 4 extra jewels at cal 3130 non working jewels, they are for the datewheel.
