Icon4 My Rolex got slammed!

I have been thinking about this for a couple of days about my last post:

http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=123900

I started this post by saying I bought a Rolex pen. I did not in any way ask from the TRF members if it was authentic or a fake. I was excited to have found a pen and a Rolex pad. I have had two responses that told me it was a fake. Both members did not back it up as being a fake with documentation. I did not want to authenticate the item, I was just happy over the item. I did however take the pen apart and found out it was authentic and I found photographs of the pen on the web.

I have seen other member’s show and tell other things and the response was great with no words of it being a fake. If other TRF members call something a fake they need proof it is a fake and not just cause a stir. How come someone can interject on a thread that it is a fake without proof? And when I come up with a web page of one I get slammed for it. I was not looking at the author of the web page for the item to be authentic just a photograph.

So I get slammed by two members on this item calling it a fake and when I interject where I found another item just like it I get slammed again. It is a no win situation here for me. I got so disgusted with the treatment on this thread I just threw the item I paid $200.00 USD away because I did not want to be reminded of the treatment I received by TRF.

In the future, on TRF, if any, I will keep all of my Rolex stuff to my self and I am not going to ask for help. It seems that all I get is slammed in return.

Last time I showed my collection the same TRF member questioned a lighter, and by the way, it is authentic.

I know I joke all the time on TRF, maybe that is why this thread got slammed, it is something I like to do, however I never slammed a TRF member who had a show and tell and did not ask if it was authentic, only someone who has a fake and they ask if it is authentic.

So why am I the only one who has a show and tell who gets slammed by two members who do not back up the statement that this item is a fake like in the past?

I asked for help, on TRF, in the past, on buying a pen, and I got little responce from the TRF members, however when I showed my pen I bought from a trusted EBay seller of pen collectibles I got slammed, and everyone had to rubber neck to see it.

I am truly disgusted, and again I am not going to present any more items I have found for future slamming, this would include my latest Rolex vintage paper items I was going to put into the library. I had already scanned the whole book, all 30 pages, but I threw that away, since I would have been slammed by that also being a fake.

I did not attend the GTG here in San Diego, I felt like a fool after this post and I really wanted to go and have a good time.

BTW: I do not want to flame anyone here, I do not want myself cooked, I just wanted to bring to light the problem I encountered here to help in the future of TRF.

Why did you throw away your pen & folder? Go to your trash bin & get it. Don't worry about what was said....they are probably jealous.

Cheer up! I wouldn't take things too seriously. I'm sure most here would like to see the new Rolex paraphernalia you collect.

All the best.

I hear ya. I got slammed a couple times here on the form so now I am carfull of what I say. Do not want to name names but people some people are quick to jump out as an expert on somthing without knowing all the facts. Like the person who said (You will know who you are when you read this) I got a bum deal on a Rolex Sub LV at $6000.00 when they are selling used in the USA for $4000.00. What this person had not considered is I live in Canada and MSRP is higher then USA and I pay a heck more sales tax also this person assumes I was in the market for second hand not true.

I would not let it bug you it happens to all of us if we post enough times on here.

So what if it is "fake"; it's a writing pad not a watch. Even the "real" one's aren't made by Rolex. As long as it looks nice then no worries imo.

I know exactly what you are saying safetrends. Sometimes this forum can be RUTHLESS for no reason whatsoever. It has honestly taken me a while to become accustomed to some of the stupid replies on a given thread. There are a number of shallow, uncouth members here.......But then there are good members as well like Randy, Kyle, JJ, Larry, etc. etc. etc. At least the decent guys out-weigh the tacky ones.

Have to agree but those shallow few are in the minority, and if they do not change very soon they could be saying to TRF.

That is a shame--I agree with Dr. Bob--Go get them now and who cares what anyone has to say! They are yours and you liked them--that is all that matters! Keep posting and keep it all in perspective!

Same problem in Watch Out section

(sighs) Same issue else wheres on the forum. In fact, happens all over the internet it seems. Bones, you might consider unlocking your p/m system. As it is, most will not take the time to email you separately as I do. Thus, the only option they see is an open post to the thread rather than back channel as you and I have done. M

Unless folks questioning the authenticity of the items are very, very knowledgeable about the exact subject matter (not just general Rolex knowledge), "take what they say with a grain of salt." I’ve run into this kind of stuff over the many years that I’ve collected firearms. Just because a supposed expert has never seen or heard of an item or a particular configuration, it must be fake or somehow altered after the item left the factory. Then, after shooting off their mouths for a few days, when these “experts” are faced with a factory letter confirming authenticity and/or configuration, all that we hear is "the silence of embarrassment."

Collectors would do well to keep in mind that when manufacturers are making products, whether firearms, watches, or other goods, to them the items are just products, not collectibles for us collectors to stress over. In many circumstances manufacturers will use parts on their products that collectors will argue "can’t be original." However, the use of many parts can overlap models and time periods, especially while transitioning to a new model or design. True collectors must do their research, keep an open mind and not shoot from the hip . . . especially when it comes to shooting off their mouths.

I just wanted to reiterate that I do believe that the number of shallow members are in the minority. I realize that I only listed a few names, but if I tried to list all the "good guys" names...................I would be here all day.

It happens on every Internet forum of reasonable size sooner or later. Regrettably it often starts as a misunderstanding, a joke not interpreted as such, or someone misreading between the lines.

Also, for whatever reason, we always feel a much greater need to be vocal when we are not in agreement. This means that for every negative remark, there are probably hundreds with a positive or neutral opinion, it just isn't voiced.

Enjoy your your collectibles and have a good time! They are not worth less because someone else has a different opinion.

I go here to educate myself, not post pictures. I dont look for validation from others for my purchases. On the flip side if some people, such as the OP, want to display a photo of a purchase that they are proud of, or think others would enjoy seeing.....they shouldnt get pooped on for it. I personally dont understand why people get so emotional on here. I have made comments that have made peoples blood boil because It wasnt something that they wanted to hear. This is why I have made like two or three comments in the past few months. I am here to buy watches from DavidSW because he kicks ass, and learn from Tools and some of the other Rolex well read members. Other than that, there are too many babies on here that cant handle a little constructive criticism.....at the same time telling someone something is fake is not constructive criticism, but rather rude an unsubstantiated in most cases.

We are certainly looking for a more gentlemanly conduct from members going forward and no one is immune from censure in that respect.

With regard to this thread I think that David's bruised ego will heal in due course and the others were not looking to be deliberately cruel.

David seems to get involved in "banter" as I see it. The "crackerman" label seems to be invited, no?

If this is not the case and David's being given a hard time then that can stop yesterday.

Not to go o/t ........... however, DavidSW is rather adept at shipping outside the lower 48.

This is where you need to apply the 90/10 principle.

PS, does that pen come in medium black??

Listen my friend you have to go get those items out of the trash right now... you can't take posts so seriously. It does'nt matter what forum you are on or what you talk about there will always be someone ready to jump all over you and TRF is famous for hijacking. You have some pretty funny posts here and a pretty sharp wit yourself so don't take it personally.

I don't mean to "hijack" the forum but after immersing myself to the forum for a little while I noticed that some people are wayyyy tooo into "Rolex" watches.

I think "some" people here needs to go out and enjoy the life outside not limited to internet forum (although I must must say, this forum is tight-knitted and alot of warm people here).

I don't want to stir up anything, just my thoughts.
